Have just been prescribed Sertraline and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this to share? I'm always anxious about going on new meds.
Some background: was on Citalopram 20mg for just over a year, originally prescribed for anxiety. My anxiety was much more managable - well as under control as I could have hoped for, at least. But after a very dark period a few months back, I tried upping my dose which didn't do much of anything. Basically, I think that citalopram just started not to work for me anymore, like I'd used up all the positive stuff from it. After that, my doctor put me on Mirtazapine 15mg to start then to 30mg. The 15mg made me a total zombie, physically could not get myself out of bed in the morning, and then when I eventually did, I was groggy, drowsy, emotionally dead, no feelings, total apathy. When I upped the dose to 30 it was the exact opposite - anxiety came back with a vengeance and I was very restless. Lowered the dose back to 15 and have been on that till today when I finally saw my doctor and was prescribed Sertraline.
hello danny i have been on sertraline for 2 months now t 1st u may get some side effects but there not to bad they soon settle after a few weeks . they are worth a shoot x
This is interesting I had the same experience on citalopram I thought it was a wonder drug then it just seemed to stop working for me.
I was put on sertraline it was fine apart from the insomnia... I just couldn't sleep. Felt like a zombie all day but alert all night. I reckon in the two weeks I was on it I probably slept an hour or two nightly max. Aside from this I was feeling ok in myself I'd say it's just the insomnia got to me. I went to the doctor expecting to be given something to help me sleep in addition but she took me off and put me on mirtrazapine.
I looked for a lot of information on it during those long sleepless nights and it seems it's about 50/50 on who suffers insomnia and who doesn't with lots saying it got better in time so fingers crossed for you
one of my friends is a nurse and she said in her experience of mental health patients she has seen many positives on sertraline.
Good luck to you
I know you are trying to find the right meds but if you were happy with the original drug, why did you have to experiment with dosage this will definitely affect your anxiety. So if it works don't experiment further.
