setraline

I went to the doctor about my increasing anxiety and they gave me setraline, 50mg a day but the possible side effects are horrendous so I looked on this site and read some experiences other people have had and now I'm worried to start them. Has anyone taken these without horrible side effects or maybe just taken 25mg daily and felt better with that?

Oh Lucy don't be afraid to take them nothing will happen to u. People with anxiety are all afraid to take meds. We read the side effects and then are to afraid to take them. I take them with no side effects. Big deal u try them and worse case u don't like the way they make u feel then u just quit taking them and try another pill type. Sometime u have to try a couple to get the exact one. But it is no big deal. I started on prozac and it didn't do well with my memory so I tried these Sertraline, and my energy soared and felt great. Just take them u have nothing to lose but feeling much much better or find out u don;t like them and try another type, but u have to start somewhere feeling better. I don;t know where I would be without them and I too was very frightened to take the drugs because I read the side effects. Then one day my friend who is a doctor told me don;t pay attention to the side effects, he said if only one person complains to the FDA that any pill made them feel a certain way (just one person) it is then added to the list of side effects. That is so sad that possibly we will have diahrea or dizziness or whatever, so we people with anxiety decide we better not take them just in case I get a side effect. It is actually crazy since we feel awful so much of the time why not try something that could totally change ur life just because of the What Ifs, we live in our anxiety by the what ifs of life, Just jump in and try them they won;t hurt u but they have a much better chance of giving u a new lease on life. Good luck

Hi Lucy

I have no sided effects and am a happy bunny now!

I started with half a tablet a day for two weeks then increased to a whole tablet : from 25 to 50mg.

Try them. You can always come off them if they don't suit you.

Good luck and don't be afraid to try them.

Jinny

Thank you for your kind words Kathy. I know it is never good to read the side effects and I know they won't affect everyone. I read quite a few horror stories on this site as well which didn't help, it's the first time I have not benefited from reading about people's journey's with anxiety. I appreciate everything you have said to me though and I will start the course and see how I go.

Thanks jinny, it's good to hear about someone who hasn't had side effects, all the stories you read are the negative ones.

I will start out on 25g and see how I get on. Thank you for your positive words

Hi lucy, I have been on sertraline for many years, from 100mgs. I am now on 200mgs daily...I have never had any side effects from day one, I can honestly say that they have turned my life around and saved my sanity...

Do not be afraid to try them..if they really don't suit you.. there are many other options you can try instead...

I sincerely hope that you start to feel better soon...all the very best to you young lady, take care, warm hugs to you..Deirdre xx

Thank you Deirdre, I appreciate your comments and so pleased you are side effect free. I took a half dose this morning as I want to knock this anxiety on the head. I guess nothing these tablets do to start will be any worse than the anxiety I feel.

Like you say I can always try a different medication if this one doesn't suit me.

Thank you for taking the time to reply x

Lucy, I have taken Sertraline AKA Zoloft for about five years with minimal side effects. A word of warning though it can lead to sexual side effects that are quite miserable. This drug was first administered to men with premature ejaculation problems and was effective for that but for the average male or female it will delay orgasam considerably, in my own experience killed my ability completely. I switched to Escitalopram  AKA Lexapro and found that to be less a problem .
