Hi Holly,
Have you looked at trustees and the HMRC concerning charities yet?
That information is probably where you will find the minimum age is to start.
Regards,
Les.
I suggest you phone the Charities Commission.
Hi Holly, it is 18 and you will find the info on the Gov UK website, my internet connection keeps dropping, so I can't post the link at the moment
I think it's great that you want to start a charity! Do you have friends on board because it'll probably be a lot of work?
And do you mind me asking what's the charity for?
Thank you
Well I'm currently recovering from anorexia and there isn't any help or any group over here to help people of my age with this. in the early steps of my recovery, I just wanted someone to talk to who was going through the same. Someone I could relate to. So, I've wanted to help people. I've offered to be someone to talk to for people of 12-18 at the group we do have which is only for 18+. I just think we young people deserve it too aha
I knew I must have been drawn to your post for a reason! I've suffered from anorexia and although I'm much older now there's still a bit of it in me. I have an utter dread of putting on weight.
I agree with you about finding people with the same problem so you can talk each other through it. There was nothing at all when I was a teen and I didn't even know of the word.
I have discovered a Charity that does the sort of thing that you want to set up, perhaps you could get some ideas here, or maybe volunteer to help. I'm not sure whether you have to be 18 to volunteer too.
I have just discovered that anyone can volunteer to help ChildLine, from the age of 16 and they deal with anorexia amongst other things. Perhaps if you were to volunteer, you would learn how to set up a charity but, equally, you might find that volunteering will be reward enough.
hi Holly. do you wish the charity to cover anorexia or anorexia nervosa or both? I have had anorexia since last August. I have no idea if there is any cure for anorexia. It started after a large dose of antibiotics. It doesn't seem to improve or get any worse.
Many thanks Mrsmop. I have had a look at to b-eat and it doesn't seem to cover straightforward loss of appetite. As I am able to maintain my weight by deliberately 'overeating' my GP is not concerned.
Still it is very disappointing for my wife that I have a limited appetite for her very good cooking. I am really looking for a way back to enjoying my food once again. I used to be a good trencherman.
I don't think there's a distinction between anorexia and anorexia nervosa George, it's a psychological condition, in which people, usually young girls or boys are unhappy with their body. A dread of putting on weight. So they eat as little as possible, sometimes starving themselves.
I had it mildly through abuse at home in my teens. A loss of self confidence, anger etc. Some youngsters feel that food is the only thing they have control of in their lives.
It sounds like your problem is medical.
Yes it is medical. It is also termed anorexia but quite simply means loss of appetite. As I'm able to keep my weight stable in the normal range. My treatment has just been advice on how to eat enough to keep my weight up. I have to deliberately eat more than I have appetite for so the solution is relatively simple. It is discouraging for my wife. Happily there are a number of things that I actually still like to eat. There are a number of things that revolt me. Some things, like eggs I can eat a little of before I am revolted by them.
Aw thanks, that's really helpful
My apologies George, I didn't realise it could mean loss of apetite as well as being an eating disorder addiction.
It just goes to show we learn something every day. I wasn't in the least offended but delighted to have your note nonetheless.
