SEVERE ACID REFLUX PROTECTS AGAINST COLD AND FLU VIRUS!!!!!!!

If you suffer with moderate to severe acid reflux there may just be a silver lining to this devastating disease. Acid reflux changes the ph at the back of your throat and nose where the cold and flu (Rhinovirus) takes hold and multiplies. These viruses are highly sensitive to acid ph and are unable to multiply under acid-reflux conditions.

Scientists have known for some time that an acid ph can kill a cold virus and the cold medication \"Vicks First Response\" is the first to be based on the idea of reducing the ph at the back of your nose and throat to prevent a virus from developing.

If you are unfortunate enough to have bad reflux at least you are less likely to get a cold or flu on top!

You can find out more from the Common Cold Research Centre at Cardiff University - I contacted the centre because I had noticed that since developing Reflux Disease I had not caught Flu or a cold - even when my family all went down with cold bugs.

Professor Eccles confirmed my suspicion that the reflux was to answer for having not had a bug in eight months!

Who would have thought there was anything positive to say about Acid Reflux???????????? Certainly not me...it has ruined my life!

I must say, I am sceptical about this. I have had acid reflux for years (severe, resulting in hospitalisation, for iv lansoprazole, and drip feeding for weeks on end due to the resulting oesophagitis) and I have had a bad chest for years, night cough, wheezing, breathlessness, but since I had the fundop surgery 5/6 weeks ago, my chest has never been clearer, I was told by my GP that this was possibly as a result of acid vapour. I can only wait and see whether i contract a cold now I have had it done, but for me, anyway, thats never been a problem!!! :lol:

Hi,

Just wanted to update on my post above from March 2007 - I still haven't had a cold or flu or any kind of stomach bug/throat infection/virus since July 2006 when I first developed symptoms of Reflux Disease.

It would be great to hear if anyone else has had similar luck?

im sort of the same, hardly ever get a cold if i do its very very mild and last no more than a day
