Severe health anxiety after bad case of mono

So, a month ago I was hospitalized for what one dr thought was lymphoma but turned out to be a severe case of mono and step throat with a rare complication of my liver. I recovered fine and have been relaxing at home.

A couple days ago, I woke up to a very sharp pain on the left side of my chest. My anxiety has been crazy since then. I occasionally get a sharp pain in my shoulder too. I called my dr thinking I ruptured my spleen despite not doing anything physically intense and he said the shoulder pain was a little concerning but a ruptured spleen would be much more dramatic and I would be off to the ER. He said he feels confident waiting and seeing what happens. I still can’t shake this anxiety though.

Has anyone else dealt with this before? Did you have similar symptoms after mono? What are the chances of this being a big issue after this long?

Every day I wake up thinking I’m dying, it’s the most horrific experience. You’re not alone.

Hi Bethany, I had a severe case of Mono,(a long time ago, still remember it vividly) it took me a long time to get back to normal(months…esp. the fatigue & swelling, missed 35 school days, was swollen everywhere, had to take steroids)…you had complications and had serious medical problems, you’re doing pretty well, after only a month, you can still have some issues but, you cannot rush recovery…take it easy a bit longer and follow your Dr. advice. If you get more symptoms, call your Dr back or call your emergency dept…you should be feeling better soon…I am not sure of your specifics but, stomach issues like ulcers, too much acid and even gas can cause shoulder pain…it seems you’re under a lot of stress plus the COVID situation, you could ask your DR if an antacid would be okay to try, or an anti-gas med(during symptoms, once or twice)..just to see if it helps!!! If it DOES, you get relief & it tells you DR that you are having digestive type issues…can be treated if needed…Good Luck & take care, anything else I can do, just chat at me anytime!!
