Severe Health Anxiety

I'm really fed up. Every ache and pain I think it's something serious. Can't stop myself googling things. Think I'm better then I go back to square one. Over thinking everything! I'm having CBT but only just started. On sertraline 50mg but about 8 days in. Current problem is the thought there's something in my throat each time I swallow I can feel something. GP felt neck & looked down my throat all was fine. Just can't stop focusing on this. Struggling with acid too is this to do with anxiety? Or tablets? Can anyone advise??

The acid reflux started as the beginning of my anxiety. I just don’t understand  how anxiety can begin so suddenly the way it did. Why is this even happening to me

Hi Kate i can empathise with you im on Sertraline 50mg have been for 6 weeks now and i can say im 50% better but i was the same googling everything i suffer from acid reflux and take Omeprazole twice a day for it i often have that lump in my throat sensation and im pretty sure my anxiety makes it worse its caused by acid coming right up into your throat and basically burning it do you sometimes have a sore throat? X

Yes I feel like my glands are up in my throat. Very lethargic and tired too! It's draining. I took sertraline before & did feel better after 6 weeks just got to wait for them to kick in again. I might try omeprazole for the acid. It's just awful this feeling of something in my throat never had it before

Did the acid start with the Sertraline i have suffered for years but the Sert has deffo made it worse ask for some Omeprazole i would 💜

It is probably all from anxiety but you could have an underlying G.I. issue like acid reflux. Anxiety can make those symptoms worse, I know from experience. I would suggest you try treating the acid reflux or GERD or whatever you want to call it. Take some Tums or drink some Maalox or something that is supposed to help with acid reflux, sour stomach, bloating, you know what I mean. Also use Google to look up ways to avoid acid reflux, what foods to avoid, elevating the head of your bed when you sleep, natural remedies, whatever you can find to help with those symptoms. The real issue with anxiety is that it makes us irrational, you are obsessing over the feeling of something being stuck in your throat, causing yourself to be anxious, which causes you to produce more acid and causes all these other symptoms. It is a big nasty circle you can get caught up in. Like I said try treating the acid reflux, which can cause you to feel like you have something stuck in your throat or have difficulty swallowing,  it might help your anxiety to lessen those symptoms first. I don't know what sertraline is, never been prescribed that before but give it time to work, and always always talk to your doctor if you feel like you need to change your dosage or try something else. Not all medication is going to work the same for you and you might have better luck with others but keep in mind most medications take a few weeks to get into your system and get to a theraputic level. So you may just need to give it a few more days to see any real changes. Good Luck!!!

Yes well it's certainly got worse since the sertraline. Just can't believe how up and down anxiety can make you feel.

My physical symptoms change from day to day

Hi.  Sertraline takes three weeks are more before you get the full affect.  Anxiety makes all things worse. It also gives you pain in all areas of your body then you over think and make yourself more anxious.

I too have acid but it not from Sertraline or any other meds. But anxiety is making the heartburn and indigestion much worse.  Awful thing to have Anxiety it affects everything I do. Wake up with it go to bed with it. I seem to be having a real bad flare of it just now although I’ve lived with it for twenty years or more. Hope you find help. xx

I also get the acid which may be the throat  feeling.  Anxiety can wreck you. Once your meds kick in, I hope that helps. Good luck.
