I’ve had balanitis for several months now after contracting syphilis in July. For me it appears as one red spot on the bottom left side of the penis head under the foreskin. I’m currently trying Mupirocin 2% ointment (antibiotic/antibacterial) after trying Clotrimazole (antifungal steroid), which did help but didn’t cure it. My question is - should I completely abstain from sex and masturbation until this is resolved? Obviously this is very difficult as it’s been about 8 months already. I know the friction can cause more inflammation, but what if I’m gentle and careful about it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure how to edit the original post, but - I was treated for syphilis and that has been resolved, but the balanitis remains.
You should not have a situation going on for around 8 months, have you seen a Dermatologist?
And yes, a photo clearly showing the red spot help to comment on …
