Share your vestibular exercises?

Since most of us have different experiences in therapy, what are some vestibular exercises to try? Here are the ones I know:

- Walking down a hallway with your head turned each way: walk down with it turned right, walk down with it turned left, walk down with it facing down, walk down with it facing up.

- Two 10 minute intervals on a stationary bike.

- Stand on a pillow with eyes open and then stand on a pillow with eyes closed.

- Tape a small piece of paper to the wall with writing on it (ex: the letter "A"wink and stare at it as you walk towards it. Now I don't remember if you shake your head as you do it or not but I do it each way.

- I was told swimming is good but I don't know any exercises in the water to do, I thought it was just in general.

What about everyone else? Hear of any of these? Or what do you do?

Yes, I do similar. I have progressed to walking and focusing on something to my right and left.

with feet spaced apart I march on the spot with my eyes closed for as long as I can before falling over.

i bought a balance pad instead of my pillow and stand and slowly blink.

every 3 weeks I go back and depending on the progress she gives me an exercise to challenge me.

I take notes on how I am feeling at the time and how I am progressing.

I feel it has helped me improve with day to day tasks. I try to incorporate these exercises during the day. E.g. Walking and looking side to side.

i've been recovering since the beginning of January. A few months of vestibular exercises with a physio and a lot of perseverance. I 'm almost there. I've found that if a movement makes me dizzy, I repeat it 10 times and try to remember to repeat every day until it no longer makes me dizzy. I also do lots of walking and do repetitive head movements while I walk. Had a bit of a stall when I got the flu, but am better now. It's a difficult learning process trying to reprogram your brain!Best,

Hi Rosalind have got a weak balance system in my left ear I'm just tried to march on the spot with my eyes close and I turn too the left does this happens to you. I feel like I'm being pulled to the left all the time.

My problem is more in my left ear also. At times I do go to my left, it is all part and parcel of the condition. I have found after doing these exercises it has improved.I still have a bad day every now and again. You just have to keep going, you only do what you can and challenge yourself when you gain a little confidence. Hold onto something for a couple and then let go.

Try focusing on a picture or something in front of you and then when you close your eyes imagine it still being there.your tricking your brain to believe your eyes are still open which helps you balance.

I think everyone needs to re train their brain in this world. Ha!
