Had a bad day yesterday with the dreaded Diarrhea, started ok in the morning, then went again 2 hrs later then really bad about 6.00pm,cramping into the late evening, then woken up this morning at 4.30 and very loose again, dont know whats caused it as ive just eaten my usual foods of wholemeal toast,Prawn sandwich and salmon, new potatoes ,carrots and peas. Its so depressing,I already have a doctors app today to get some more medication to last me over my Safari holiday next week, really scared now about going. The only pain ive had is a sharp shooting pain into my left groin that only lasted a couple of seconds, would appreciate anyones thoughts.Im not a happy bunny.
It's sounds more like something you ate maybe he prawn were off you need to go on fliuds only for a few days and then bring in light food like clear soup mash pototo , eggs but not fibre good luck
Im pretty sure it wasnt the prawns as i had only just defrosted them, but im at a loss as what it could have been but thanks for your comment.I will see what the doctor says.
It happens to me all the time I also can't work out what food courses it. I took Imodium to stop it now constipated. Won't be taking it again I hope it sorts its self out and you get on your holiday. Hope the dr can help you
Hi Yvonne,
just a suggestion, it ranges bells with me when you mentioned you are going on holiday. Lately when I am going on holiday I am ill beforehand, normally settles when I am away. I think there is a stress element, even although I am really looking forward to my trip. The knock on effect is that I am scared to go away now. I am going to doc Friday for advice, but at present I take small dose of amitriptyline, a muscle relaxant, at night which helps me as pain and urgent bowel movements seem to occur at night
good luck, and hope your trip goes well
Mary.
I usually need the toilet more on a morning, ive had to take some immodium this morning as i wouldnt be able to manage getting to the doctors,im pretty miserable at the moment,im sure it will clear up in time for my hol,it just scares me.I just hope i dont spoil the hol for the other friends we are going with.
I haven't been on holiday yet I cancelled one I had booked for fear of having a flare up. I took Imodium but it as constipated me so don't think I will be taking it again I hope the dr sorts you out ready for your holiday x
Hi Mary, ive not heard of taking Amytriptline does it work ?
It seems to work, as when I have pain I can't sleep, and hence feel even worse! At present I am having a bath before bed, some buscopan if necessary and amitriptyline. I have used amitriptyline, in bigger doses, before for anxiety. My doctor agreed that it should help me sleep better, happy to give anything a try!
Just a small suggestion to add to these posts. Why don't you take antiseptic wipes and some small plastic bags like doggie bags, so if you do ge caught short whilst out on safari, you can be clean and comfortable. I've never been on a safari, but I imagine there must be times when you need a "bush toilet". But hopefully by then your tummy will have settled back. I do hope you enjoy your trip.
Does the Imodium constipat you if so what do you take to get going again
Yes Felinia I'm going to do that but hope I won't need them,as to the Imodium,I took one full tablet about 8.00am this morning and have had a fairly normal bowel movement about 11.15 so no I dont seem to get constipated. My tummy feels a bit odd sometimes but no pain .Whenever I get diahreea though I feel a bit sickly .Thanks for all your suggestions I really do appreciate them.
My dr told me to take 2 Imodium that must be why I am constipated
Yes Susan probably,my doc said to open the capsule and empty half out which I've been doing but probably not enough ,so that's why I took the whole one this morning.Im still taking the Fybogel and eating fruit which helps I think as well.
Taking Immodium frequently is not good for the bowel, is this connected to Diverticulitis? When my attack was done my bowels were still a wreck from the meds I was on so my doc recommended a probiotic tablet each day to put friendly bacteria into my system and it took a few days but it worked and have been fine since then, that was in January. I also used it after having pancreaitis to get back to normal.
I take a probiotic drink everyday I won't be using Imodium again x
Oh Yvonne I can completely understand you anxiety ...I was diagnosed in Jan after being admitted to hospital, and yes I'm worrying about what happens if i get a flare up abroad ( I've had a couple of dodgy days but nothing to warrant antibiotics) we have booked to go to Spain in July ..And of course i need to change my travel insurance...Where are you going on safari? We have been to south Africa twice and it's amazing....Even then without knowing i had this problem i took baby wipes , tissues etc ....Try not to worry I'm sure you will be ok
Hi all ,I've been taking a probiotic for a while now so I don't think it's helping.Im pretty sure I've not got an infection so I don't think taking the Imodium will cause a problem as Im quite careful and I still go at least once a day .We are going to the Motswari in the Kruger National Park,I am looking forward but a little apprehensive about the toilet thing as we are traveling about a lot as well,I booked this about 12months ago when I was well and didn't have any problems.I went to Aruba last November for my 60th and I had to cope with diahreea there and stomach problems but that was just a beach holiday and was easy to manage. Thanks again for all your comments and I will post back when I return .
