I recently had gallbladder surgery December 11th. The week leading up to surgery I found myself getting so upset I would dry heave and couldn’t do anything but think the worst.
Anyway after having the surgery I have experienced even more symptoms.(leg and arm aches, chest tightness, constant shortness of breath, stomach cramps, rib pains…) Which sent me going to the Emergency room. They did bloodwork. All came back fine except my d dimer was a little elevated. (which is common after having surgery). So I went for a ct scan. Which showed a spot. The radiologist wasn’t able to completely decide if it was a blood clot or an artifact. So I then had a sonogram done on my legs to check for DVT. Thankfully that came back normal. ECG a few times. Came back normal. Ended up staying overnight in the ER waiting to have a VQ scan done the next morning. Did the scan and came back normal. So they sent me home. Seen my GP who had talked with the ER doctors about what had went on…he said he spoke with the pulmonologist who ruled out it being a blood clot.
Now I find myself even more worried over the slightest ache in my legs or arms. My ribs still have a dull aching that comes and goes. I still get short of breath even if im not feeling anxious. (comes out of nowhere). I get shaky. Have hot flashes. Heart palpitations. Constantly checking myself over for anything wrong. I am currently taking 50mg of Sertraline in the evenings. The doctors don’t seem to think it is anything to worry about.
we can have symptoms of anxiety and even panic even if we don’t feel that way. You probably have an underlying anxiety and your brain is aware of that so it sends out adrenaline and that’s where you get your symptoms. They are harmless. You have been thoroughly checked out. When we have anxiety it causes us to have scary fearful negative thoughts that are not true. Not based on fact or reality.
What I think you need to do is learn how to calm down your mind and do it several times a day. Get on YouTube and listen to some great short meditations for proper breathing, anxiety, etc. You are overthinking this and allowing your mind to go to the negative. Everything is fine. Shakiness, hot flashes shakiness, , heart palpitations extremely common symptoms with anxiety. The more you check yourself out to see if there’s anything wrong, the more you’re going to have anxiety and the symptoms!
you have to be in the right mindset. Think of the facts. The fact is that they found nothing wrong with you. You are young and healthy. Another fact is that you have anxiety. Be determined to let those negative thoughts go and get on with your life. One day wasted in fear is one day you’ll never get back. Worry is like being in a rocking chair it keeps you busy but get you absolutely nowhere it does absolutely no good. Go do something that makes you laugh and smile! Take care
Thank you for your reply. The shortness of breathe is what scares me the most. So when that happens my mind automatically goes straight to thinking there’s something seriously wrong. I keep trying to remind myself everyone heals and recovers at different speeds after a surgery. But that’s another thing that bothers me because I was told approximately 2 weeks I’d feel better. But here I am still not better. ![]()
it’s most likely anxiety related. But those short breathing meditations really help! Proper breathing is the key to relaxing everything! You’re going to be OK! Don’t overthink this.
