Should I continue thyroid medication?

Hello, i have a question about my tsh level. it is currently at 1.93 which is within the normal range but my doctor has advised me to continue with thyroid medication (levothyroxine sodium 25mcg). Also about a year ago i had my right ovary removed due to a cyst and since then have experienced menopause including reduction of bone density. My question is that is my doctor right to continue my thyroid medication despite that my tsh levels are in the normal range. (I am female, age 45).

Hi Linda.  It is your thyroid meds that are keeping you in range.

Hello Linda you will probably always have to take thyroid med.like Jennifer said your meds is why your thyroid is in normal range. My doc told me I would be on mine the rest of my life. I'm 47 been on it a year now.

Hi Linda, you're thyroid isn't making enough thyroxine and your thyroid medication is making up the shortfall. An under active thyroid isn't usually a medical condition you can cure. Though there are things you can do that will help your thyroid perform at its best e.g. ensure you have enough iodine, ferritin, selenium and vit E in your diet. Other things you need to check are your vit B12, vit D, potassium, magnesium and zinc levels. Ferritin needs to be about 80 for your body to be able to use the thyroxine you are getting (from your own thyroid and the tablet).
