So I’m 20 years old and have been diagnosed with GAD about 3 months ago. I have chest flutters, chest pain, dizziness, etc.. but today’s experience was likely the most frightening I’ve experienced.
I was sleeping and woke up with the feeling of COMPLETE breathlessness. It didn’t feel like shortness of breath, it felt like I honestly was not breathing. I jumped out of bed and almost blacked out. This was followed by a heart rate that went up to 134 BPM. I also had shortness of breathe after.
I’ve already been to the ER 4 times for other symptoms. I got an echocardiogram last November amd it was normal. I also had 3 normal ECGs, normal chest x-rays, and normal blood work. I also have seen a cardiologist and he cleared me.
How in the world can anxiety cause that experience this morning. It felt like I was not breathing at all and was going to black out.
So am i, I've had normal ekg also, blood work was fine except thyroid was high did an ultra sound, waiting on results. I jus wanna be my old self again😢 🙏 for for us all as we journey through this process🙏🙏🙏
It's crazy, anxiety can cause nearly every symptom you can think of! You ever asked about sleep apnea? That can cause breathing issues during sleep. Might be worth going to a sleep clinic.
Do you get the feeling like you are not breathing at all and are about to black out?
Albert
If you rise out of bed to quickly you will suffer dizziness and possibly breathlessness. When we are waking up from rest you blood pressure rises to supply a stronger supply of blood to brain and heart, this is quite normal, if these and other organs are at sleep the brain does not need the amount of blood when awake.
Dizziness can also be cause by the fluid around the brain to slosh around this causes dizziness. Sometimes your quick movements can also effect balance as the ear is a main proponent for your balance. That is why if the ears are blocked by wax the ears can also cause dizziness

Hi Albert, yep it can do some crazy s### to you. I had that feeling a couple of weeks ago like I wasn’t breathing at all but still alive. Last for a few days then it decided to go & bring something else on.
I think if that’s the case I will be flat out on the floor but no I’m here and still can talk feel and see. You do find yourself having quite a few argument with your brain.
At least you have been tested to you can outdraw any abnormalities.
Keep strong you can beat this !
Hi thank you so much! This has been so difficult. I’ve actually seen 3 cardiologists and they all think nothing is wrong but I just can’t wrap my head around how anxiety can cause all of this. I also get this feeling like I’m losing control of my limbs like they get weak. I had a head CT as well and it came out normal.
Hey,
Yes it can make you feel like you are losing it. The mind is a very powerful thing. It really is.
I never thought that I would end up with health Anxiety like this either, as I have always been mentally strong.
But here I am. 🙁
Try and not give it a seconds thought & hopefully it will pass.
Keep strong! You can beat this !
Yes I also get the feelin as though I'm gonna pass out. There has been cases where I'm inside a store and suddenly get the feeling of faintness and have to immediately exit the store. Praying for us both 🙏🙏
