Hello, I'm having surgery in a couple of weeks to repair my grade 3.5 rectocele. I also have a cystocele but it causes me no problems. My uro/gyn has suggested putting in the bladder side of my vagina to strengthen it and raise the prolapsing bladder. Since it's not causeing any problems now, does this sound like a good idea? There are some risks associated with doing that. If you have any experience with this situation please let me know what you think. Thank you.
hi. i suggest you have it all done at once, last year I had posterior repair with hysterectomy 10 months later i needed anterior repair, meant two major ops in short time which is not pleasant. Im hoping this is it now and im sorted but who the hell knows whats round the corner. hope all goes well for you
I meant to say - My uro/gyn has suggested putting STITCHES in the bladder side of my vagina to strengthen it. Does this mean she will cut the anterior side of the vagina and stitch that like she will do for the posterior rectocele repair?
i had stitches on posterior and mesh on anterior - anterior five weeks ago, im back to the consultant next friday so will know more then about how it went
Hi Shirley
I am 70 yrs old and it's been almost 12 months since I had my grade 4 rectocele and grade 2 cystocele repair done, together with a tightening of the perieum - a perineorrhaphy. My surgery entailed the folding-over of the prolapse on the rectal/vagina wall which was then stitched down like a pleat. With the bladder my susrgeon put stitches into the bladder wall which was then lifted. No mesh or cutting was necessary.
I too would certainly advise you to have both repairs done at the same time. The recovery can be challenging, but as long as you are prepared to take it easy and allow your body to heal and rest, then there is no reason why you shouldn't have an excellent result as I did. Within three to four months things got back to normal - including bedroom activities. All the best, it'll be worth it. LadyPink
