Hi
i have had my gallbladder removed in February 2014 . It's keyhole surgery you go in in the morning have the operation and go home in the evening . I was very nervous but after 3 days of moderate pains which a paracetamol relieved I felt so much better. I realised I had been feeling sick , nauseous a lot of the time . I had been suffering pain and horrendous colic attacks now all gone. Wish I had been diagnosed years before and had the operation earlier. After 6 weeks I was fully healed able to run and exercise .
If you don't want the operation the only way to avoid the pain etc is to eat no fat no butter no oil no rich foods like red meat ... No caffeine and sugar also triggers the pain.
Your gallbladder collects bile to squirt in your stomach when requested if you eat fat your stomach needs a good squirt of extra bile so your gallbladder contracts squeezes and your gallstones get squeezed too they rub together and make your gallbladder sore inside or worse they get stuck in the bile ducts which give you the agony faint sweating heart attack level pain which makes you go to hospital. If they block the bile duct you can get jaundice go yellow which is dangerous ...
So if you avoid fat etc your gallbladder doesn't squeeze.
But it's bland .. Boiled rice plain chicken , white fish etc boiled veg , if you do this now your gallbladder pain should go away ... But if you eat fat or cheese or rich spicy food it will start again..
It's your choice ... Hope this helps
I had mine taken out 7 days ago. No more pain !!
Hi i had my gallbladder removerd about 5 years ago and it was the best thing i could of ever had done. The operation is not as bad as you proberly imagine, and the pain after is very managable. You will be up and running in about 10 days.Well worth having done you can eat and drink what you want and NO MORE PAIN.Everybody is nervous of an operation, but i can assure you that you will so glad you took that step.I wouldn't be so for it if i wasn't absolutly sure its the right thing to do.Best of luck.
Hello Vincent
Sorry to hear about your pain. You can keep your gallbladder if you follow some rules. To stop the pain now eat beetroot (beets) and celery and drink liqourice tea. When teh pain stops you can go back to eating normal food but reduce your fat intake. No pastries, cakes, butter, spread, eat fat free yogurt, things like that.
Doctors are very qucik to rip out gallbladders but htey do not know how it iwll affect each individual.
I have a 13 mm stone and have had it for five years or more, I manage the symptoms very well.
