Hi SVDH,
So sorry to hear you are having such a rough go of it. I too suffered from AS for years, and the biologics were helpful in managing the inflammation, but I did not overcome my AS, and become off all meds for the past 8 years, until I cleaned up my diet and got rid of all the inflammatory food triggers. For me it was not about eliminating certain foods, it was about eliminating classes of foods that are known to cause inflammation. I suffered AS for 20 years, was bedridden at one point, and all my lower vertebra fused together. Now I have been off all meds for the past 8 years, lift weights, bike and skateboard every day at age 54. My diet: no gluten (wheat, flour, rye or barley), no dairy, low lectin, no refined sugars, low sugar carbs, grass fed organic meats, wild caught fatty fish and shell fish, no juice, limited almonds/macadamia/walnuts (these are the low lectin nuts), and very limited non-GMO corn (90% of corn is GMO), no processed foods/oils. Half my daily diet is consumed in it's raw state. Each meal is 30% protein (meats/fish), 30% carbs & 30% fats/oils. Typical daily meals include organic sweet potato or yam mashed with coconut oil and sea salt, 4 oz of wild blueberries, can of wild sardines, 4 oz of beef or chicken, two vegetable smoothies, and 1-2 teaspoons of raw organic honey. I also supplement with a scoop of fish collagen powder, a scoop of quality pea powder, 1/2 teaspoon of ashwaghanda powder, fish oil, magnesium, and vitamin B6, B12, D3 & K2-MK7. Eliminate all flourinated tap water and toothpaste, and replace with quality spring water (Crystal Geyser). Soon you will be defecating 2-3 times per day, which means that you are on the road to health. Last, after my AS resided, I connected with a functional medical specialist who started addressing all the systems in my body that were affected by the inflammatory foods I had eaten. AS is just the tip of the inflammatory ice berg. Once that is gone, you need to closely look at the adrenals, thyroid, immune system and digestive health, which more or less come back on line after your diet has been corrected. It's all related. Last, eliminate artificial light sources as much as possible, mainly blue light in computer/cell phone displays. They shut down dopamine production in the eye, which control dopamine secretion in the brain. Also get a minimum of 15 minutes of direct morning sunlight at least 3 times per week. We are photoelectric beings, meaning that our eyes and skin absorb photons/electrons from the sun, which charge the mitochondria in our cells, which are the cell's battery to drive cellular processes. Reducing blue rays and getting sunlight (without glasses or contact lenses on, and preferably as much skin exposure as possible...shorts & bare chest), will yield immediate results that you will perceive in energy, mood, cognitive functioning and tissue regeneration. Luck!
