I am a 35 yr old female-I have had pain in my shoulder/arm since July of 2014. I thought it was simply from the way I slept or thought maybe I pulled a muscle- fast forward to now. I have severe pain when laying on my shoulder-reaching behind my back simply to hook my bra is a nightmare and everyday I question whether I can do it or not. My shoulder aches throughout the day- some days are worse than others. I cannot extend my hand straight up in the air ( like you would to raise your hand when you were in school) When I go to pull something it can hurt. When I lift my elbow away from myself it hurts. I do get popping in my arm and shoulder area- has the same feeling as if you have a stiff neck and turn it right away you get that popping/pain sensation. If I get startled forget it- instant pain. . The pain radiates from the top of my shoulder near the curve over the top side of my arm. I have researched this to no end and its a variety of things it may be- shoulder impingment- tendonitis-rotator cuff tear. I honestly dont know what I did. I didnt have any direct injury. I can tell you I have slept with that arm under my pillow for a number of years. I also had a bad habbit of laying on my side with my arm extended above and resting my head on my shoulder. I am thinking after many years it may have just worn down. I do have an appt with an Ortho on Tuesday but was wondering what you guys thought or if these symptoms reflect anything youve been thru? Thanks in advance!
Mine exactly, ended up diognosed as frozen shoulder
All that sounds so very familiar. I honestly would get second opinion if any doc suggests surgery. Before my total reverse replacement which I'm now in more pain than ever I had a simple "slap repair". From there it was down hill. Had my 1st total replacement in 2006, was revised 3 times then in 2012 I had no option but to have a reverse total replacement & once that's done there is no going back. PT never worked. I've got so many adhesions from all the surgeries that I've now got frozen shoulder. The obe thing I always keep in mind is: if I ever have an appointment with a surgeon its for surgery. Surgeons cut-zit hats all they do. Sad to say.
Let me know what they say as I have the same pain!!!
Thanks guys! Now I'm leaning more towards frozen shoulder but who knows. I'll let you know what they say! I have a feeling I will have this pain the rest of my life.. I've read some horror stories.
Hello Kel , your symptoms are exactly the same as I have had over the last 20 years in both shoulders , I have had numerous scans etc. and the problem has always been torn rotator cuffs , I have had 4 operations over the years and none have worked , in fact I have only ever met one person in all this time who says the surgery was successful, Mal .
Hi .. I just thought I'd give an update! I did go to the Ortho and they took some X-rays and concluded that I do in fact have frozen shoulder. I decided to opt for physical therapy and not get any injections right now. Unfortunately it's going to cost me $70 a visit and he wants me to go 3x a week which would run me broke. I'm gonna try doing some exercises online and see how that goes however.. Friday when I got home from work..I sat down, didn't even do anything with my shoulder other than the normal maneuvers you would do when going to sit on the couch, and I did something awful to my shoulder which I feel set me back cause now I'm in more pain. I dunno if I stretched it wrong or worse. I feel like I can't lift it as high now. I'll keep you guys updated!
Hi Kel, glad you know what the problem is now as I said mine was frozen shoulder too, I was offered injections but said no and also no to visiting physio, I was given exercises to do at home instead but like you mainly just carried on with my daily routine and it has improved a lot, yes sometimes I unexpectedly catch it and it takes my breath away but overall little by little my arm range has really improved so hang in there, I go for a check up mid May and I think they will be happy with it. It takes a long time to get full use back ..If you ever do but be patient obviously if you think something is amiss see your Dr I would definitely ask for home exercises if the cost is to much to visit physio but as I said I didn't use them I just used arm as normally as possible without thinking about it too much and it's coming on ok. ☺
