I’m having a revision on my left hip as it’s MOM. problem is I have a torn tendon on my right shoulder. I won’t be able to put weight or pressure on my shoulder when using crutches or stick. Anyone else had this kind of issue before?
No, but I would recommend using a walker
HI Carol! I had a hip revision 2 1/2 weeks ago. FOUR days before my revision I fell & fractured my right upper radius arm, my dominant arm. I am usung a walker & PT placed an adaptive device on the right side of the walker. One part of it supports my arm in a horizontal position & the other part allows me to grip with my hand. It has made a huge difference in my ability to walk. For me it was put on before my hospital discharge but physical therapy could add it anytime especially if you are receiving home visits. Wishing you well!
thank you
wow thanks for that. I will speak to PT about that! take care !
hello carol, i am sorry you have a torn tendon in your shoulder, and also require revision surgery due to MoM. when it rains it pours. its very tricky using a walker or sticks with a painful shoulder. discuss this with your doctor. some pain meds prescribed for hip after surgery may help. a pain patch on my shoulder and knee were prescribed during rehab helped a lot. i had also had revision due to MoM and had a torn shoulder rotator cuff , and severe painful nodes on palms another disease that effects the cords on the palms and a torn miniscus in my knee. my poor palms were so painful and made it very painful to grip the walker combined with the force of my weight on my shoulder to walk with a walker. pain meds for hip and a pain patch on my shoulder and knee helped a great deal along with soft foam padding on the walker handles for palms.Talk about a trainwreck! once I could balance and walk without all my weight on the walker i was given a four wheel walker ( rollator walker) with better soft grip handles , has a seat , basket, height adjustable & hand breaks, the new rollator walker was easier to walk with and offered less stress on my shoulders, knees and hands. ask for pain/patch meds to help your shoulder thru recovery ,it would be easier than risking more shoulder damage or a fall. sending you healing blessings and wishing you a successful rehab.
thank you so much for your reply and advice x
Agree about using a walker. Limited pressure and more balance.
