i’m 6 weeks post Hip replacement, siactica set in after 1 week. It was horrible for the first week. Has settled some. It hasn’t totally left. Affects walking,incision site feels like stinging and pulling.Bedtime is when all the leg discomforts come alive. Have not slept through night since surgery. Any advice out there?
Faye, it's too bad you are suffering from sciatica post THR. I didn't have this problem after my THR, although I did have it during a pregnancy. I have seen posts on this forum from people who had it after hip replacement, and I hope some of them post replies to you. Regarding sleeping through the night, it may or may not be sciatica related. I didn't sleep through the night for at least 3 months after both of my hip surgeries. The horribly interrupted sleep was one of the worst things for me about recovery. I would awaken multiple times a night and slept only for 1 ½ hour stretches at a time for the first couple of months both times. Finally it got down to once a night and then it got back to normal at 3 - 4 months.

Problems to the sciatic nerve can happen during a hip replacement due to excessive retraction during surgery. This is much more likely if you had the anterior approach. I noticed that my surgeon had mentioned on his notes something about protecting my sciatic nerve during the op
