Sickness post op

Hi, I'm new here. Now 7th. day post op and as most people I'm waking during the night and having pain and soreness. Today my sterile dressing came off (as instructed) and the wound looks dry and healing. One of the worst things for me is the feeling of sickness I have every morning, which I'm putting down to the anti- coagulant pills I'm on.

Who else suffers this and have you any ideas, please.

Hi Eileen, welcome to this wonderful hippie group! I am just over 6 weeks post op! Still bruised, but getting there! I would call the hospital and ask for advise,as you might have an allergy to the medication! Good luck ! Regards Amanda

I was given anti sickness meds as part of my discharge. Best see hospital for some advice

all the best

Hi Eileen, i suffered bad sicknesss post op for 4 days because of the narcotis then doctor decided to stop them and use just panadol, for blood thinning am using Aspirin, even though my stomach is very sensitive am tolerating it fine without sicklness...perhaps ask your doc to change the medicine...

Hi Eileen,

it it may be the pain medication you are on causing the nausea. Even Nurofen can do it. I was prescribed Omeprazole by my GP. You take one each morning - they worked a treat. Good luck with your recovery. Day 7 is very early days so take care.

Hello Eileen did you have a general anaesthetic?  Quite a common problem with GA I am told

Hi Eileen,  I had nausea for about 2 weeks post op  but controlled it with gravol which is a motion sickness med.  It worked well.  I think the shock of the surgery combined with pain killers and blood thinners accounts for that feeling.  Once you are off of pain killers you should be fine.

Hi Eileen..I had THR two weeks ago . Soon as I came home I. Experienced dreadful nausea..turned out to be the Oxicodone.  Doc switched me to Tylenol 3..same thing happened..so I took myself off and went back to Tylenol extra strength which I had been taking before my operation. ?..did not even ask my doctor...just did it.  That did the trick.  I am taking far less now than before my operation and hope to get off completely very soon.  I would rather endure a tiny bit of discomfort than that dreadful nausea!
