I have been on methotrexate for almost a week now, my second dose will be tomorrow. Started off on a low dose of 10mg a week.
The day I took methotrexate I felt a little sicky, but okay, I was expecting that. The past few days I have been quite sore, which I am expecting to settle down sooner or later, and have been taking Naproxen (NSAID's) to help with the swelling.
I have also been taking Folic Acid every day that I don't take methotrexate, yesterday I forgot to take it, and today my lips and cheeks are so swollen. They're bleeding and my teeth hurt to touch them.
Has anyone else had this reaction? Is this a lack a folic Acid as I forgot to take a dose, or is it a side effect to the drug? Is it anything I have to worry about?
Hi Stacy, it's a side effect of Methotrexate but you should tell the doctor who prescribed it for you.
The folic acid helps with the sickness
Why are you taking Methotrexate?
They usually prescribe MTX then Folic acid on the following day, then nothing until the next dose of MTX [Methotrexate] but doctors vary.
Stacy, when I had an adverse effect while taking MTX, I didn't take the next dose and saw my Consultant before continuing.
I would suggest that you don't take your next dose until you have seen your Consultant/Prescriber
I've started taking methotrexate for psoriatic arthritis.
I managed to get into the doctor before taking my second dose, they have taken me off naproxen & told me to continue with the methotrexate for now.
So far so good 
I'm glad things are ok at the moment.
Hello Stacy, I would really like to know what you did to stop your lips bleeding. I have this exact problem. I have been told it's a side effect of Mtx and have been putting up with it for months. I take folic acid every 2 days. Thanks.
