Side Effects of Progesterone Use

Has anyone experienced an increase in vaginal discharge with the use of oral progesterone?  I was diagnosed with LS approximately 2 years ago, but had symptoms for 1 year prior to diagnosis.  I am also expreriencing premature menopause (age 42) and consequently placed on Estradiol patch and medroxyprogesterone (1st 10 days of month).  When I began not having cycles, they changed me to a 2.5mg tablet every day.  This is when I began having an abnormal amount of vaginal discharge.  It was not yeast and have been tested for yeast several times.  I believe this increased discharge is very irritating to my skin and therefore has caused a LS flare that has been relentless since June (prior I was in remission for about a year & only using clob 2 x's/week).  I complained to my Integrative Doctor, who put me on the bioidentical progesterone tablet.  She thought this would eliminate the discharge that was clearly causing issues.  While the discharge is better, it is not gone and remains irritating to my skin.  Now I'm having to use clob 2x's/day!  When I attempt to reduce the clob use, my LS symptoms increase.

Has anyone else experienced increased discharge with progesterone use?

If so, I would love to hear what you have tried (successful and unsuccessful).

My gynecologist is suggesting an IUD, as this will deliver the progesterone locally instead of the systemic route via the oral progesterone provides.

Thank you!

Krista

Krista, I have not had that issue with the progesterone. But I did have complete relief of my symptoms from LS simply using Borax in my bath and using the saturated solution! I was using Clobetasol twice daily also and could still not get the itching, stinging, biting, burning to stop. If you have not already, look up the forum, an experiment with Borax on this site. Good luck!

Hi Krista,

I've been taking bio-identical progesterone capsules 25 days a month for several years now and have not had any problems with discharges.  I agree with Joanna - look  up the discussion "An Experiment with Borax".  There's a ton of information and helpful feedback.
