Its been 3 weeks since both eyes were done.
My far sight is wonderful but my near sight is not good.
Cannot read with my readers as I could before. Is this normal?
You should ask your dr what strength to get your readers. Assume you knew you were getting implants for distance only? I had the same problem but the near vision with my old readers are now ok. I do recall that the near vision was actually better for awhile, so your eyes may be adjusting to the implants.
Yes, I believe it is normal. While distance is corrected, often close up is compromised. I think that's pretty standard. That's what my eye doctor told me.
You may be developing secondary cataracts. They are not usually immediately apparanent after surgery but appear a few weeks afterwards. Bring this to your doctor's attention. If your eyes are fine, just select some new readers.
If your distance vision is "wonderful" then that means that readers should be able to provide you with "wonderful" near vision as well, since they merely shift the focus point of that "wonderful" vision. If they don't, that means that they are the wrong power. You could try different power over the counter reading glasses from a local store. If both eyes were targeted well for distance that could work well.
If not, it could be that the power needed by each eye is different so you'd only find some that are good for one eye or the other (depending on exactly what prescription the surgery left you with, you might be slightly farsighted or nearsighted in one eye or the other, but not enough to impact your distance vision). If so, then you might want the doctor to prescribe reading glasses that would be good for both eyes. They often wait 3-4 weeks after surgery to prescribe glasses since they wish to be sure the vision has stabilized (in rare cases it could take longer than that) since the prescription can shift a bit during the initial healing phase as the artificial lens moves in or out a slight bit (since its position impacts its exact power).
