Sign off hospital day!

Had my 6 week sign off at hospital today, actually 8 weeks but who is counting! Had usual variations of advice all of us get, like:

Swimmimg including breast stroke is fine

Yes 90 degree rule now relaxed but don't cross legs

Jog and Dartmoor walking Ok ,but with care

Can kneel up and down on either leg.

Baths and driving were fine from six weeks. I've done both since then, yes,  - but maybe now I'm signed off I should tell my car  insurance company I am driving AND can put my jeans on standing up. They may also want to know I'm taking a weekly bath as well as showers too?!

Overall, GREEN LIGHT, they seem happy with me!

Hi Mic,

Well done you. Did you feel like I did, like you'd passed some kind of exam?

I haven't tried swimming yet, 9 weeks post op, but I am managing without crutches or sticks albeit with a slight limp. Still a bit creaky achey and trying hard to walk without my gorilla gait!

It's great to be driving again, not sure about telling your insurance you can put your jeans on standing up! It might give them a laugh or they'll put your preminums up and report you to the funny farm!!

If you are, or thinking about jogging soon you must be doing fantastically well. I haven't jogged since school so won't be attempting that, but looking forward to city breaks where I can actually explore places without the misery of a nagging pain, although I could always leave him at home I suppose!

Keep up the good work.

Great news! Isn't it good to do normal things again?

Not sure about trying breast stroke tho, I thought that was one thing we could never do again. I'd love to try but I'm going to USA in 4 week so trying to avoid unnecessary risks. Might give it a go when I get back.

Take it easy, don't overdo it.

Fantastic Mic! I have mine tomorrow and will report back. I really hope I'm told I can do breast stroke again. My Physio said never again! Why oh why do we get differing info from within health care teams.

I have so enjoyed your posts and wish you well - green light yes!!

Congrats at getting signed off.  Were you told never to crouch again as well?  Did she also mention the word "sex"?  Seeing as we were all at least 35 years older than her, she blushed at the subject and we all tittered!  I wouldn't tell the insurance company about your jeans, they might revoke your licence thinking you are stark staring mad!

Hi All,

Yes it did feel a bit like passing an exam!

Sex was mentioned by way of piccie of 2 canaries on a wire, and physio said she'd answer in our individual slots following group seminar

no mention of crouching, or not

did phone insurance company, who didn't seem too fussed either way.

Good luck Barbara with yours tomorrow. could it be girls can't do breast stokes and boys can?

Hi Mif

Such a great feeling to carry out our daily routine without constant pain.

Thank God the 90 degree rule did not apply to me.

Best of luck.

well done on getting your  A*

to summarise - you can crouch, have sex with canaries, stroke breasts and need insurance to put on your jeans

life changing indeed!

Beautifully summarised. Cheered up my evening beautifully.

Just writing my list of questions to ask my consultant tomorrow. Will add all of these.....
