Six weeks post op thigh feels weak on operated leg

is that normal? I'm using one crutch but it feels bit strange, my wound seems to be healing ok but hard to know what's normal?

Hi Emma,

Have you been back to the doctor's yet?  I am 8 weeks post op and my thigh still feels strange.  very numb-like.  i have beent old it will take quite some time before it feels "normal" again.  Are you doing the necessary excersises?  my wound has healed, but it also feels at time, very tight and sometimes, i feel like it's bruised around the incision.  I have been told to use loition (UK says bio-oil) (USA - coco butter)  i really dont know the difference, but i do massage all around it to help with the scar tissue break-up and muscles to feel "normal" again.  I still use a cane at times when i am unfamiliar with my surroundings or just dont feel like i have full strength.  nothing wrong with that.  wishing you a speedy recovery! No I haven't been back to the doctors I'm using bio oil (I'm in the UK) on my wound but didn't know whether to contact the doctor or not regarding the odd feeling in my leg, got a hospital check up next week.

I'm 5 weeks post op and my operated leg is still very weak I don't use a crutch or a stick to walk round with and getting upstairs proves a little difficult but I'm determined not to be held back by it I'm sure it will sort itself out eventually.

I'm just coming up to a year post op (3rd replacement) some days I feel fine but other days a little wobbly. Your hip and surrounding muscle tissue have taken a battering so don't feel too worried. Are you starting Physio? This will help build up the muscles, they do say it's anywhere between 6-12months for a full recovery. Just listen to your body and don't push yourself - good luck

Hi just come back from 6 week check up . Doc pleased said the pain I have is normal and could take a while to go . I have a limp which I didn't have before so referred to physio to strengthen adductor a .  Told me to wean myself off crutches . Restrictions lifted but still be sensible . Can drive if I can do emergency stop hurray ! Will see me again in 3 months
