Hi I have had PMR for about 4 years now and I am on 4mg of pre d after a few ups and downs on dosage.
I have recently started suffering spots on my face and boil type spots elsewhere. Wondering if this is part of the process and if I should go to the docs.
After looking for info on the Internet (bad mistake I know) there was a suggestion that I should go to docs about it because I am on steroids. Anyone else had any problems?
Thanks for your continued support. This forum has been my life line!
Shirley 40391, I for one not had that side effect from Pred, good on the rest of your journey. Try to stay positive and smile, I know it's hard, but I believe it helps. Thinking positive and smiling. ☺️
Thank you so much. Positive thinking is the way forward! Good luck!
Hi shirley40391
I have heard somewhere along the line that any blemish on the skin when taking steroids should be checked out.....
Does your GP check bloods regularly? One thing they should be doing is checking blood sugar levels/Hba1c levels to see what your average BS level has been over the past 3 months or so. High BS can cause spots. There is also a form of acne caused by steroids as a side effect.
You do need to chat to your GP about it - just in case.
Long term steroids can increase the risk of some forms of skin cancer. You should get such things checked whether you are on pred or not.
Thank you for your advice. I will get an appointment booked tomorrow to see my gp.
I ve been on steroids for 6 years, last summer I developed a acne rosacre on my face....not nice....have been prescribed antibiotics, it cleared, but is back again.......definitely caused by steroids.....😕
Good luck
Thank you Linda. I am seeing the doctor on Tuesday so hope I can get some answers.
