Sleep Aids

im on 40mg of citalopram, and was recommended to take valerian root extract, has anyone had tried this or had success with any sleeping tablets, thanks

Hi Shar.  I havent taken the root extract but I have used valerian 'plug-in' diffusers - bought them to calm one of my cats and the benefit is they've worked on me too.  Valerian is well known in horse racing circles as something to calm race horses - its a harmless substance to such an extent that its permitted even under the rigorous drug testing done on race horses.  I found it worked well on both me and the cat smile  No contra indications when used with any other medications.

I took Kalms to try and help me sleep initially, until the insomnia wore off.  Never tried Valerian Root Extract.  Be interesting to see if it helps :-)

That's funny, when I spoke to the girl, I told her I needed horse pills as my sleeping pattern is really bad!!!! That's what I got!!!!! I don't care as long as they work!

Will let everyone know if they work, or not to bother!

Hi there Shar Shar,

I'm a veteran regarding valerian root. Years ago I would have a camomile tea about an hour before I would sleep and just before going to sleep a valerian root capsule.(I've never taken sleeping tablets). This was on my later doctor's instructions. No side effects. Just a really decent nigh'ts sleep. If you should awaken during the night you will turn over and fall asleep again. I used this for years with no problems whatsoever. It goes without saying that these be taken of an evening - you can't be seen to be dozing off during the day!lol Even now, I will have a cup of camomile tea before I go to bed when necessary. Works wonders so don't worry. Good luck.
