I have a mild case of sleep apnea and smaller lung compasity due to less activity over the last few years.
I'm 53 going in for total hip replacement Tuesday. My concern is my oxygen levels after surgery.
Did anyone have difficulty with this during or after surgery? If so, what were they and how was it addressed?
Thank You, Roguewarrior
P.S. I went in for a sleep study last Sunday and will get the results Monday before surgery. I was told that i may have a slight case of Sleep Apnea after losing over 100 lbs.
My Sleep Apnea was Acute severe before i lost the weight.
My CPAP preassure will be adjusted and i will be taking the CPAP machine in to the hospital with me in case i spend the night.
Hi, i too have sleep aponea and i worried about it before the surgery i had 2 weeks ago but the hospital was brilliant with me. I had a spinal plus sedation and didn't need my cpap machine at all although i did at night when i was back on the ward. Just make sure you let them know before you go in and they'll deal with it all for you.
I have sleep apnea, and had my right hip replaced 2 weeks ago. I brought my CPAP machine with me to the hospital, so in recovery, they put my mask on, and I used the CPAP machine for the 2 days I was admitted to the hospital. I had no issues during surgery, but was certain to let the Doctor know I had sleep apnea prior to the surgery.
I went back to get the results of my sleep study before my surgery and the results showed that i had made major improvements. I no longer stop breathing while i sleep and my oxygen levels improve dramaticly. I no longer require to use my CPAP machine and there was no reason to take the CPAP machine to the hospital. I had no issues with oxygen levels after my surgery Tuesday. I'm home recovering and doing quite well in fact.
Thank you both for your responses. Wishing you both a full recovery.
Sincerely, Sherri
