For the last 7 weeks I have had fitful sleep lying on my back. Today my specialist said I could sleep on my good side.
I did a dummy run earlier in eagerness to find the muscles in my back and ribs are so painful it is impossible 😢

Place a pillow between your legs that should help
How catt1, I’m sorry. I’ve been there too but it gets better. You said you tried it earlier, do you mean before the 7 weeks? Maybe try to do it gradually and use a pillow between your knees to keep things aligned. Maybe you still need some pain meds or maybe some ice and alternating heating pad on your back in the meantime. Not sure why your ribs are sore. Maybe others on here will share some tips with you. It will get better in time.
Oops. I meant “ Hi “not “How” !
I found a thin pillow between my legs and one behind my back really helped. I am now 9 weeks post op and it has got a lot better now without the pillows I can actually get some sleep. Good luck with your recovery.
Hi Catt, l had my anterior Hip replacement surgery 4 weeks ago, and I've been sleeping on my side for about 1 week, first it was only on the good side, now I'm sleeping on both sides, l put 1 pillow between my thighs/knees and 1 pillow at my back leaning slightly back so I'm not putting all my weight on the bad leg.
Heat has also helped l put a hot water bottle on the thigh and outer leg before l go to sleep.
I also take my pain pills before l go to bed.
Hope this is helpful.
So sorry to hear that. One of the hardest precautions was 😴 on back with pillows between legs, right? I had posterior THR and different people have adamantly told me to sleep on good leg or ",bad" leg and my surgeon said either. I continue to cocoon myself in pillows, one against my back, one between my ankles and one small one between my knees. Not sure if semi imobilation might help. Oh and am on my side while doing this. Good luck
Oops, also. Meant to say immobilization
I did 😢
Thank you x
Thanks
I am hopeful things will improve
After my operation, I could easily get on my operated side, after my revision operation it took me about 18 months before I felt anything like comfortable for more than a few seconds.
It varies a lot, give it time.
Graham
Thanks for a good reminder, namely that it varies a lot and to give it time.
