Hi I ve been taking elleste duet 1mg for five weeks which helped to get rid of side effects of perimenopause. At first I was sleeping better but not sleeping well recently I have water retention too I'm thinking of changing a different one on Monday when I see a doctor. Did anyone have problems with sleeping while on HRT. Thanks Caroline
I do tend to wake early
I do wake up at six but since taking HRT wake up twice in the middle of the nights recently. !! The first two weeks I slept well but not recently
I'm on Estradiol (generic for Estrace) 2 mg. and love it. (I had a full hysterectomy in my late 40's). It takes months and months to get fully regulated on hormones. By your 6th month you should begin to feel just a "tad" better and think maybe I can make it - hang in there and by your 8th month you'll start feeling even better. I would talk to your doctor about the water retention though. What helped/helps me at nights is taking 1 Tylenol PM. I'm surprised how many of my friends have told me they take it as well.
Hi
Thank you for your reply. I know I should give it bit longer but struggling with more symptoms cropping up now Joint pain sleepness nights water retention and weight gain!! Thought HRT would help not create more problems. I'm on elleste duet and is going through perimenopause Any suggestions on which HRT to take ? Thanks
I'm not familiar with the hormone you're taking. I'm taking the generic estrogen hormone pill Estradiol (Estrace is the name brand). I don't know anything about any other hormone pills, other than Estrace/Estradiol . 2 of my friends also take what I'm taking. I've never had water retention or weight gain, although just getting adjusted to hormones is a nightmare, including joint pains. It has taken me 8 full months to FINALLY feel normal. You really need to talk to your doctor about the water retention and weight gain though because there are other hormones out there. Ask him if he can do a blood panel on you to see where your estrogen level is, that can help a lot and give him a place to start. I'm beginning to think (after my horrible experience) these doctors haven't a clue what to tell female patients going through this because they've never experienced it. If they did, believe me, they would be better on the ball helping us. I had to learn how long it takes, why am I feeling depression, why is my mouth burning, why are my joints killing me, why am I so tired I can barely function, why is this dark cloud of gloom coming over me to the point I feel I need to go the ER for help. Thank God for Xanax, Aleve PM and Tylenol PM. But from my experience when I first started out taking the hormone I was originally on in the very beginning, back in 1998,... The 1st week you start taking it, it's a little rocky, then the next 4-5 weeks you feel just fine, THEN the bottom drops out and your're crying, calling the doctor begging him to help because you can't understand why you're feeling worse than you've felt since before even taking it. Thank God a friend (who was going through it 2 months longer than me) just kept telling me to "grit my teeth and hang in there" you'll have ups and downs (mostly downs) for 5 full months, then by the 6th month you'll feel a fraction better, by the end of the 7th month I felt a little better, but then had 2 really bad week, I'm now in my 8th month and feel normal again. But.... I know I can still have some setbacks because it usually takes a full year to be okay. I also found (by the 7th month) any little thing that upset me would trigger my hormones so I would take a deep breath and tell myself this is just the hormones, relax. I hope I've helped and I know this is so long, but one of my friends told me what to expect and that's what got me through it. Also, I have my annual with my OBGYN and "let me tell you" I plan to write up this same senario for his patients so they will know what to expect. Take care my friend, I'm here anytime for you.
