Hi all
Am almost 10 weeks post op and still cannot lie on my operated side without getting a lot of discomfort. No problems walking etc but sleeping is still a problem because of the discomfort. Are any other hippies out there having the same problem?
David,
βFollowing my initial operation, I was laying OK on my operated side after just 6 weeks, but unable to get on my unoperated side right up to my revision at 10 weeks.
Then I was unable to lay on my operated side for more than a few seconds until about 9 weeks following my revision, but was ok on the other side from 3 weeks.

Thanks Graham
I'm the opposite; ok on good leg at 6 weeks but still struggling on new leg at 10 weeks. No choice but to persevere I guess.
All the best
It will come ... just give it time.
Hi David,
I am ten week's post op this Friday and I still can't, even with a pillow, lie on my operated side. I had my left hip replaced and prior to surgery, always slept on my right side, which I am again doing. However, I am due to have my right side replaced later this year, so it has become somewhat of a worry.
When comparing both hips; there is a slight protrusion on the operated side and it is slightly tender so I am hoping that there is still some inflammation that, with time, will settle.
Perhaps we can compare notes?

Hi Morrie
Thanks for the reply. I also had LHR on 15th Jan. We appear to be at the same stage of recovery! Will let you know when things improve.
All the best
Yup. Exact same problem. Walking is ok. Sleeping is not! I'm also nearly ten weeks post op. Have only just been able to lie on my non operated side without lots of discomfort. But my surgical incision (lateral) was also very slow to heal. Physio has started massaging the scar tissue - major ouch - but seems to make the wound less painful
You will both probably suddenly find you improve - that's how it seems to go. I had my revision on 7 Jan, so not far ahead of you.

Massaging the wound site is good to reduce the sensitivity and break down the scar tissue inside. Recommended product in UK on the NHS website is Bio Oil.
I am guessing a lateral scar may be more painful because of where it's situated, my posterior scar isn't directly underneath me when I am on my side.

Thanks. Will see if I can track down some Bio Oil. Think you are right about the lateral scar site.
There is a link to the NHS advice on emollients on my website in 'Early Revovery' page, just below the penguin.

Thx Graham. Wish I had found your web resource sooner. It's great!
