Sleepless in Seatle

I started at 20mg of pred in April and am now down to 12.5.  I'm finding that I am up at ungodly hours in the morning and not able to go back to sleep.  My energy level is great and I am functioning normally, but is this a normal occurrance on pred?

I started on 20mg of pred in May, and am now down to 11. I am sleeping at least 12 hours a day, my energy level is  so low, and I am just plodding through life. I am trying to do physical work and keep active. If you find out the reason for your high energy level please let me know. What time do you take your pred and are you splitting your dose ?

Hi, I am almost identical to you. I started in May, same dosage. Only difference, I developed SEVERE bursitis in hips, been almost unable to walk without cane, since July. UGH. FINALLY pain GONE, and starting to get back, slowly, to walking schedule. My very active sure went to pot. I do try to make myself take a little rest after lunch. But, up @ 4:30 AM, cannot go back to sleep!  Arggggg. Makes long day. I stay busy all day. I take Pred in AM, and do not split. GP had me splitting, but Rheumy said DONT SPLIT! Sooooo, I don't. I have been on antidepressant for about a month and a half, as the total change in my life style had really went to the dogs!  I'm am "Sleepless in Michigan!"

Love the movie!!  I have kid,  grandkids and greatgrandkids in Seattle

area.....anyhow back on subject.  Most of us complain of low energy

level.   I am so fatigued most of the time that it's hard to get anything

done in my house.  Thank goodness my husband and son help me.

Really strange isn't it that so many of us have different responses

to the same drug?  (pred) I hope your energy stays at a good

level for you but mine went down the longer I took pred.  I've been

on it for a little over two years.  I'm in the U.S. and just sent my doc

a note yesterday telling him how much I've learned on this

site.....stay tuned for a lot of good info!

Looks like everything is possible with pred, even with the same or similar levels of dosage!  I had been having my usual intermittent insomniac nights, which didn't bother me much as it's been a lifetime thing with me.  But since, for another reason, I started taking a dose of calcium at bedtime I have been sleeping very soundly - over two weeks now.  Hope it lasts!

I have been diagnosed with PMR in June and am now on 10 mg of Prednisone.  I do wake up in the middle of the night (to go to the bathroom) but don't have any problem falling back asleep.  I get from 7 - 9 hours of sleep per night, and that hasn't changed much.  Reading some of the comments on your conversation, it seems that others are experiencing the same sleeplessness as you.  I guess the longer you have PMR, the more you learn about the condition.

I'm taking 1200mg calcium at night.  Doesn't seem to help with the sleep.

Thanks for sharing,  Good luck with your journey,

I actually live in Massachusetts, (should have said sleepless in Mass.)  I think what has helped me with my energy level was drastic diet change to an anti-inflammatory diet. I cut out all my refined sugar, candy, white bread, soda.   Mostly salads, fruit, nuts, seeds and beans.  I'm not perfect with it, but if you do any reading on the subject of auto immune conditions, diet seems to play a big part. I also started meditation with my wife and have also always been atheletically active which I think has helped to keep my body in good shape to fight off most illnesses. Hope this has been helpful.  Good luck.

Sorry about your hip.  I also take pred in a.m.  and don't split dose.  What might help with depression, is diet change to an anti-inflammatory diet, and trying to force yourself to exercise.  I also started meditation with my wife.  Good luck!

I take my pred. in a.m. in single dose.  Energy level I think is do to my always being atheleticlly active and in good shape.  Also drastically changed my diet to an anti-inflammatory type diet.  Cut out all my refined sugars, candy, soda, white bread, etc,  I think there is good science behind a good diet to fight off auto immune diseases.  Also started meditation with my wife.  Hope that is helpful.  Good luck!
