slow reduction

Yesterday i had my first day on the slow reduction, 9mg taken at 8.30 (slept in)

Then by mid afternoon , ankle hurting, pain in groin and pain in my right temple, by 8.30pm thought bugger this back to 10mg, after 2 hrs ankle and pain in groin easier, but pain in temple same, hubby was on red alert bless him, the book did him good.

Went to bed at 10.30 slept till 8.45 could you believe, hubby said he stayed up till 2 in the morning just in case, Heck  cany believe he is the samer man who only a few months ago thought i was a nutter

Tody feel better, but still had temple pain not as much as yesterday.

Thank you all for you info on fruit i have made a list of what i eat fruit wise, and maybe i have been having too much so i am going to look into that as well as the carbs.

Well done Margaret.  Might be worth dropping for one day in the week and then 6 days still at 10 and then second week 2 day at 9 and 5 at 10 and so on?

I assume you are doing the slow approach so tomorrow and the next few days you are on the old dose? I find I feel disgusting for the first 3 or 4 times I try the new dose and then it gets better - and that was the reason I emphasise just having one single day of the new dose at a time for as long as it takes. Having 2 consecutive days of new is too much early on.

Good luck - and wow, what a turnup for the books! Read, mark, learn and inwardly digest as was drummed into us at school!

following the dead slow method

Yes Eileen i am on the dead slow approach, but i am still wondering if it is too soon to reduce as i have only been on pred since January of this year.

This morning i was woken up by violent pain in right leg and my leg was stiff it was horrendous, and thoughs on this please. I am making a list of things to tell the doctor when i see her so any feedback on this will help me.

Many thanks

It depends on the dose - but the usual is 6 weeks at your starting dose of 15mg. So if you have been on your starting dose for over 3 months it is time to start trying the reduction.

You can't assume anything that happens is directly associated with the reduction in dose. That's why I say just one day at a time to test the waters of the new level. If something only appears on the days you have tried the new dose and never appears on the old dose days then it is fair to think there may be a link - but I find the first few days I feel twinges and feelings that disappear by the time I get to the 4th single day of new dose. That I assume was something that was associated with my body not liking the new dose but which it gets used to.

After all - a violent pain in one leg is hardly typical of PMR is it? Sounds more as if you slept awkwardly or perhaps lifted something too heavy yesterday and hurt a back muscle.

I did have this on my holidays not quite as bad as last night when i mentioned this to my doctor she said if paracetomols helped it was not pmr so i will mention this again, i am on my second day of the 10mg so another 3 days to go before i try reducing again. I started on 10mg in January so i have been on it almost 5 months.

Thank you once again for your help.

If you only started on 10mg it is possible you won't have to go far to find the "dose for now". 15mg is felt to be well above what most people need and then you reduce to find a longer-term dose. If you only staredt at 10 you are already 5mg ahead of the rest of us.

Margaret I am following the slow approach as outlined by Oregonjohn have to say I feel better today.Iam at 10 also

yes i have to go another few days then i can try 9mg again so will see how i go.

So glad I found your slow reduction advice over 2years ago.I followed it right through down to one till Rhuemy said stop. Worst thing ever two weeks of agony now taking Two preds daily for 6days and so far so good. On April 22nd Esr was10 two weeks of no Pred was 18, having blood test tomorrow and hopefully going down again, Will then go see Doc. Looking back my Rhuemy has been no help I have even taken my updated Esr to him each appointment this Forum has been wonderful. Will have to feel better still before I consider going to one again.

Thank you - two of us have similar plans and we do love to hear when they worked for someone. I had to provide citations from people who'd used them and what they thought a couple of months ago for a research project. I am quite sure that the vast majority of "difficult" patients would get to far lower doses approaching it this way. If you can get to below 5mg no doctor should be overly concerned at being there for a some time and when someone has managed to make it to 1mg and is well - why mess with it? It doesn't matter whether it is a placebo effect or not - 1mg isn't doing harm and if it keeps you pain-free that is the aim.

Are you going to stick with your GP now if they are happy to manage you? I had 3 visits to a rheumatology clinic in the UK, they didn't manage to diagnose it and were really not friendly or helpful at all. I can only assume I wasn't in enough pain to be regarded as worth their time...

Yes I will stick with Gp the very first time I went to him 2years

Here I go again with my little finger playing tricks.Yes he diagnosed me on first visit.I was on Pred within 48 hrs and 5 days later

My tablet screen is all over place haha sorry.to continue 5days later was pain free. He has been fine but followed Rhuemy for instructions. I contacted Rhuemys office yesterday and was told if bold tests were ok I was to be discharged. Secretary pulled file and giving it to Rhuemy.I am having blds

Done today for Doc and Seeing Doc Thursday or Friday.Am still on 2 preds daily and not really. Too bad.Getting. quite depressed tho. Back Bowling again which is. helping the mental aspect

Watch this space as the saying. Goes. Really must sort this Tablet out. one

Gosh what a mixed up message machine I am today, found reason for rolling screen now.Haha.

Have your tried using a stylus for typing on the tablet? Might cure the pinky problem...

Good thinking thankyou
