Small lump on back of neck, what is it and how do I make it go away?

I noticed a small lump on the back of my neck about a month ago. Af first I thought that it was a pimple because I've had acne problems for years and two years ago I had a similar sized lump on my lower hip that my doctor said was a pimple and got rid of it right there in the office, but I don't normally get acne on my neck. Soon there was another lump on the other side of my neck, it hurt, but that definitely felt like a pimple. Now, the latter is completely gone and it doesn't hurt at all, but the original lump is still there and it has a sort of scab on it. Although the scab is most likely caused by me rubbing it, putting acne medication on it, etc. I don't know what it is and I don't want to go to the doctor only to find out that it was just a pimple especially since I have a phobia of doctors and hospitals. Please can someone tell me what it is and what I can do to make it go away?

Is it on the back in the middle? side? ... Maybe a lymph node? Did it's size change since it appeared?

Its next to my spinal cord. I haven't been able to tell exactly if the size has changed, but so far not dramatically.

Not sure what it might be, but if you're sure it's not a pimple I'd see a doctor hence it's near the spine cord, and any complications there can be serious.

Face thefear of doctors ans go. It could be a gland or a cyst and the doc can fix both. You can probably go to a dermatologist which would be less stressful then a gp
