I have had a small, painless red bump on the shaft of my penis for a little over a week now. The bump has looked relatively the same since I first noticed it. I trim the hair on my penis (and surrounding areas) about once a week, so I am hoping it is just an ingrown hair. I am sexually active, but have not had intercourse since mid April. I always use a condom and have only had the one partner in the last six months. Any input as to what this may be and tips to treat it would be much appreciated!
Jimmy, these things are quite common, and other than a hair follicle that you have already identified this could also simply be a blocked skin pore. The skin does look quite angry and irritated however and could have potentially have started as a single insect bite.
I keep a small bottle of liquid antiseptic on hand to deal with any simple lumps and bumps like this that appear on or around the penis and scrotum. If you live in the UK get a little bottle of TCP and dab it directly onto this 4 or 5 times a day, when it starts to subside, 2 or 3 times a day, then 1 or 2 until it is completely healed.
