went to 2 drs this week..the first one told me oh im not having menapause symptoms i have mood disorder. i asked if mood disorder had severe hot flashes anxiety achy bones waking up in a sweat in a panic feeling really bad all day ..ect..she said well ur thyroud is fine im not checking ur hormones cuz its not menapause. ok??? oh im sorry i cant give u a quick fix..ok..51 yrs old. im going through ut. i went to another dr today she said oh yes its me apause but my symptoms arent...all i been reading on this forum. well most..i can relate to but she yes another she said. nope non of that is menapause. yes maybe the anxiety and hot flashes but nothing else. told me to see a shrink and she put me on gabepatin. what???? idk. i really think im crazy or these drs just dont want to help women going through this hell..anyone else having the same isdues with drs or am i just nuts!!???
I went to a fancy obgyn office an hour from my home. It had leather couches, handed out iPads to fill out the forms, and had a wooden bowl filled with nuts in the waiting room. She had over 400+ positive YELP reviews. She told me my blood work didn't indicate menopause and that my symptoms sounded "adrenal" and not menopausal. How could that be when my symptoms match numerous posts on this forum and others?! Sometimes I feel like I could have written the posts myself. So, me and dozens of other middle-aged women are just walking around with adrenal issues?!?! This doctor sees hundreds of patients per year. She has 20+ years experience and I am the first woman to come to her with these symptoms??? Either I am crazy or I am a unique little snowflake. GRRRRR!
I honestly think most doctors don't have a clue.
It's NOT just you, Jaynie. My gyn of 27+ years said he thinks God forgot women over 50. Well I think most docs did too! My gp of almost 20 years said he just isn't educated enough to treat menopause. So now I'm stuck trying to find new physicians who may have a clue. Ugh! I pretty much feel like life is over for me. I'm NOT suicidal, by any means, but what is there to look forward to? I've read on here how many women's lives were changed with hrt or bhrt. It did give me hope. We have to advocate for ourselves! We have to put in the work to find docs who can help us. But why the HELL does it have to be SO hard??!!
no u are not nuts its the doctors its peri or meno if u dont have periods anymore! They wont test for anything thats the reality and if they do they wont do anything about it they always said to me that hrt is only used for hot flashes please dont think ur crazy its all connected if hormones are out of sorts it can cause all sorts of things
i dont understand how an anti siezure pain medication can be prescribed as medication for anxiety menapause?? i read up on and im scared to take it..on the other hand im so drained from feeling so bad i woukd like relief..but thank u for response cuz i never felt like i was being treated so badby a dr..and both were women which gets me!!
its just very sad. i acually was broke down crying looking at her like really??? ur a woman and u are talking to me like this??? i knowmy body and i know regular anxiety and regular not feeling well to how i feel now. some days im just getting through with a war inside me trying veryhard not to show it..its just not living...but according to her its mood disorder?? wow!!! i would live to find one dr who could really understand and tell me how to get through this without feeling so bad..i guess from what the 2nd dr said we that are going through " mood disorders" are all unique little snowflakes. nuce to meet you..hang in there. 🤗
Fully Agree
Yes i have same experience with Dr' s .
They donot understand our pain and our symptoms.
From last year i was roaming in hospital from one Dr to Dr... Gynecologist said NO ITS NOT MENOPAUSE...UR TOO YOUNG FOR THIS....it may be Pms...heavyness and headaches r not connected to it....i told i have headaches head pressures alot. off balance issues too ..she send me to Neurologist........then he send me to GP....and circle goes on....and Dr told ur in depression...u think alot...i told him i am jelly legs.... irregular periods....off balance issues etc. .. .he said i cannot help.....ur too early for menopause... . he give me sleeping pills and vitamins...
I think our Dr donot have much knowledge about Menopause.
By seeing posts in this forum i learn alot about Meno ...relate all my symptoms with u all .
Ur not alone dear...ur not crazy. our Dr r crazy... tk Hang is there.
oh i'm sorry this has happened to you. i've had that again and again. started with my thyroid (hashimoto's) and then continued with menopause. took me just about 20 years of saying how exhausted i am and how i struggle with weight, until they sent me for the right tests. and when results came back that my thyroid is in really bad shape, my then gp said, that that wouldnt be making me gain weight or be tired (huge eye roll). couldnt believe it. then exactly the same for menopause symptoms. was given a ton of medication from antidepressant to antipsychotic to beta blocker to asthma inhalers to acid blockers .... i tried some of them but then stopped. then finally saw a doctor who prescribed bioidentical hrt and life improved again. ive lost so much respect for doctors. now i see no reason to believe them. i check everything on internet and then decide myself what to do. its made me feel alone but impowered as well. i really wish you good luck. listen to yourself and do what feels right to you. big hug
Dont take the drug! You are not crazy, you are going through the menopause!! Hormonal change has GLOBAL effect on body as well as mind!!!😢
hi all, iv read all your replies and iv been in the exact same position, Dr's & even specialists have no clue about us, iv had every test known to man since 2012 and no one tells me its to do with the menopause so iv given up going and just try to get through each day the best i can, but its taken over my life and i feel ill never be the same. jayne your not in the slightest bit crazy your just going through this horrendous time. Do you ever get the impression doctors just think wer exaggerating and just being over dramatic because thats how my dr looks at me when i last saw him ( dont want to see us stupid unsympathetic face again) .
sending you all a comforting crazy hug x
thats exactly it. i just really thought going to a woman especislly an older woman dr..she would understoid...thats what i get for thinking. anyway the bunch of us know our body and how we feel. had a active normal life now a slave to this bad feeling everyday. believe me just like i told my dr i git better things to do then to be sitting here feeling like sh....t!!!!! hang in there.
Hey Jaynie, I am so sorry you have had this experience and it’s terrible. I would definitely report both of these doctors to whoever The directors of the facility are . And also the agencies one reports a dr. to for gross negligence. Gabapentin is for fibromyalgia, I was prescribed that as I have Fibro, I didn’t take it but I think it’s used as both for any depressant and pain ? There’s an article online from Oprah Winfrey magazine about multiple meno symptoms and dr's ignoring the symptoms. Every symptom you described is in the article. Plus we all know it’s menopause, because we all have the symptoms. I would find an article like that and I would print it out and hand write a note and bring it into both doctor offices and give it to them personally. I’d also give a copy directly to again, the person/people that are directors of the facilities. How insulting, you would think it’s 1910! I'm sorry, but I am angry for you, I would not take this laying down! It's almost comical ...to my knowledge ...none of us on this forum have medical degrees ...yet we know more than the doctors. Again ...I am very sorry you had this experience, you’re not crazy. It’s like I’ve said before ...these doctors would be happy to pack us full of Prozac send us sailing off on a ship to Menopause island ...so they wouldn’t have to be bothered with us. I mean what is going on with the medical field that they insist on ignoring the multitude of symptoms of menopause. Completely baffling and discerning ! I don’t know anything worse than going to the doctor with horrible symptoms, that are real, NOT in your head, and being told you’re crazy, when we already feel crazy. It really is a ridiculous riddle! Sending blessings your way :) You’re not alone Jaynie, we’ve all been there with these inept doctors !
hi Jaynie - Yep, my own female GP that i actually love, refuses to believe that the laundry list of symptoms i have or had, has anything to do with menopause. My dr is constantly insiuating that i am depressed & need anti depressants. Fortunately, i have refused them, because i know that i am not clinically depressed, just post menopausal!!!! i love my dr, but she is about 7 yrs younger than me & i do think a good dose of menopausal symptoms, might make her a better understanding dr! you are not alone, drs dont get it, & we need to empower ourselves with knowledge because we know our bodies - the best RX I have found for combating this nightmare is low impact exercise like, swimming, yoga & some weight lifting. i know its tough when you feellike crap, but some how the endorphins overpower the yucky feelings - i am not saying by any means its a cure all, just elevates you a bit -
I can remember going to see a lady gp who just told me you seem to be obsessed about your health! Another said mm you are having a rough time of it. Not once was i told its peri menopause i was experiencing, in the end a nice man dr was sympathetic, found out i had M.E. as well with it and candida. Think problem seems to be gps are a jack of all trades but master of none, if they cant help us or diagnose us properly then send us to a proper qualified person who can, i thought a simple blood test could diagnose the menopause, its jut they dont bother most the time. If they think we are going mad or its all in the mind arnt they like thinking or asking why it seems to be a certain age then this is happening and yes young woman can go through early menopause. too, ive got an 8 yr. grand daughter going through puberty poor girl. Can you imagine the state of parliament if men went through this!. I personally believe many woman suffer so badly it should be a recognised health issue and there should be more financial help for us woman who really are to bad to work... Rant over lol
Its effing nuts! I get more or less the same answer (not that I have any mood disorder) and they refuse to even listen to anything other than night sweats and hot flashes. Any aches, palpitations, nerve issues, anxiety are just dismissed as "they are not menopause related", "we don't treat / help with those symptoms" and of course the clincher "if you have these problems, go to your general doctor". WTAF? I'm at my wits end, and don't know what to do, where to get help! I wish more doctors get training in menopause issues and took our symptoms more seriously. Hang in there...at least we have this forum and can express our frustrations here.
Hi Gerry are you taking anything for your thyroid or are you just on bhrt ? Do you follow a strict diet for hashimotos, I have the same issues hashimotos and menopause and boy oh boy does it ever make you exhausted.. Thats great you are showing improvement with the burt, I feel awful, feel like ive been hit by 2 trucks.. Any advice on what you took would be great thanks!!!
Bhrt not burt
HI Gypsy Ive been on Levothyroxine for nearly 2.5 years now. I am on 75 mg. i have been gluten free for 12 years now. that was the first step to getting better and ive never gone back to eating gluten because that makes me feeltotally crap and bloated. tiredness and the feeling of being hit by a bus has unfortunately lingered over the years. BHRT improved anxiety, panic, sleepless nights etc etc and a general sense of well being. BUT HERE IS MY SUPER EXCITING NEWS: for the ladt three months ive been taking 200mg selenium and 2000mg myoinositol a day (split in two/ morning and evening) and for the first time in years, i feel really good. i read these different studies online on how myoinositol and selenium can improve hashi symptoms drastically within six months of taking this combo. i checked with my endo (showed him studies that he didnt know about) and he said to go for it. i tell you, it has made me feel normal again - sometging id given up on. good luck!
