So I've been taking it easy 5 weeks post op now in agony eeek!!

i had my hsterplexy and colposuspension for my bladder and womb prolapse 5 weeks ago , I've been taking it really easy on all of your advice although yesterday I've decided to load the dishwasher light things and cook a stir fry as I've been feeling okaish the past week and the Drs said I need to start doing things , due to return to work next Friday, I'm feeling this is more unrealistic now.

I have been in agony with severe pain in my surgery site in bikini line and internally co Utd this just be I have over strained ?

Also do you find footwear can effect you ,i only wear flat boots but yesterday I wore my knee high boots which are heavier than my ankle boots ,I'm wondering if the added weight could of pulled on my tummy ?

Sorry lots of questions ,the Dr here in the U.K. are very focused on getting back to normal as soon as possible, I'm just worried as all you lovely ladies say it's Major surgery the Drs have just advised not to lift anything over 5kg and no hoovering and light housework and walking everyday and avoid bending, but for how long on the bending or crouching as you have to do this most days ???

Thanks in advance xx

Hello natalia. You don't say what your job is but if it includes lifting or standing for long periods then it may be a bit too soon to return to work. As you rightly said it is major surgery and that's how it is classed by most Urogynaecologists and nurses. You may have strained your operation site but I'm sure you won't have done any lasting damage but you need to rest and take something for the pain. Pain tenses the muscles and will hinder recovery. Wearing knee high boots could well have had the same affect as lifting and caused the muscles to overstretch. Have a long warm bath and feet up for a few days and that should help.

Hello, thank you that's what I thought could of happened with the boots it's so frustrating. I'm a Hairdresser in a busy Salon , I have a GP appointment next week I'm going to ask for an extension on my ssp note , what do you think is a reasonable amount of time off from work for an operation like this ? The hospital reckon you can return after 4 weeks ??

I think 4 weeks sick leave is definitely not long enough and you should definitely get it extended. It amazes me just how much so hospitals underestimate the effects of this surgery. Obviously I don't know your full medical history but as you are going to be on your feet for long periods I would say 10 weeks is reasonable. You will find that being on your feet for a long time you will get a dragging feeling which is very uncomfortable. If that happens you need to sit down to get any relief from the discomfort and I'm sure that won't be very easy when you have clients to deal with. The longer you can take off the better really and I know financially it's not always practical to be off work for so long but if you can you're surgery has a much better chance of being successful.
