Hi everyone, since a lot of people in this group have changed over since last I was here, let me give you some background - sorry, this may be a long read, so I’d recommend getting a cup of tea at this point.
Right, so I was originally put on Citalopram, which to make a long story short, turned me into a zombie and they changed my immediately over to 50mg of Sertraline Hydrochloride. To those who are worrying about increasing side effects, I get your worry, but they do reduce after about 6 weeks and it’ll start to help. But the truth is that these drugs will not cure you. Only you can do that, and to be honest, I’m still not bloody winning! Hell, things have improved, I’ve got a better job, I have a wife now and I’m a bit more competent physically (I’m an archer, so the medication I’m on and a bow doesn’t work well together!).
Due to a few massive life events I’ve slipped back and am now on Mirtezapine and Diazepam to cope with both my depression and anxiety. So just know, that yeah, it can get better, but people like us are pretty much are gonna have to keep fighting tooth and nail to keep ourselves in check. But I’ve got friends who have worse problems than me, so I focus my efforts on getting better so I can support them.
To the people here who are new, regardless of what I’ve said, things will get better in time if you stick with it and give your doctor the full information. Yeah, ya might slip up, but believe me, it’s ok to not be ok. And don’t be afraid to ask for help, that’s what it’s there for, but ask early. It took me 6 months to get counseling! I had to rely on my sister until then which put strain on her, and my wife as well as she struggles to handle me, especially when I have a full on panic attack and collapse. I swear A&E should have a cup with my name on by now…
I’m pretty crap at replying due to my own anxiety. But PM me if you do have specific questions, I’ll try to get back to you. But know, the come-up from these anti-depressants does drift off, if it doesn’t, go to your doctor and get it changed immediately. Things get better, but be aware that it’s still a bumpy ride. And if you feel unwell again, catch it early and get back to your doctor.
I’ve had this for 20+ years now, so play it safe all and be careful. And again, I’m happy to answer any questions.
