Dear ladies, last year I turned 55, and still have periods. After a few years of almost all physical problems, last year I started feeling better, but soon physical problems changed to psychological. Since last summer, I feel depressed, anxious every day, wake up at night with anxiety attack. I am constantly thinking about my periods, health issues. I feel so exhausted. I am still bleeding regularly, and according to medical checkups I am healthy. I am afraid this won’t stop.
Hi Lena,
I am in the exact same boat as you, but it seems that my periods are almost over (hopefully). Psychological symptoms are very common in peri. I can go from happy, peaceful, blissful to anxious, crying, deeply depressed in an instant. It is so hard to deal with. I just keep telling myself that this is a phase, and that, in time, my hormones will balance, and I will feel well again.
Hi Lena,
I am 55 as well and still get periods - but they are far from regular. When I was younger, I never had a problem, but for a few years now, I get extreme joint pain everywhere, but especially my knees - so much so that I can barely walk up stairs. As soon as I get my period, the pain subsides quite a bit, however, the bleeding is so bad I literally have to stay in the house for days until it stops. I too, have sought medical advice and told I am healthy. Because this is affecting my everyday life so much, I was asked to think about an ablation, but it's not for me - so I wait and wait for this to stop. Like you, I feel like my joy is gone, I so tired I can barely get out of my own way, and I constantly worry about my health, even though all my doctor's say I am healthy. Not interested in HRT at the moment, but this is getting to the point where I feel it will never end and I will have to reconsider. Hang in there. You're not alone!!
Hi Lena, I'm the same too I'm 47 and in peri menopause, but I've started with the anxiety part first, I feel so low and anxious most of the time it's horrendous i notice it more around my period time which is very erratic, so never know when it's going to happen, all I know is when I'm on period my symptoms are extremely exaggerated x
