Some concerns about Prednisone

So I’ve been sick for a long time, like a few months, it started off as a normal cold and ended up being a lingering cough with chest congestion and sinus issues. I went to the doctor, and my nasal test and chest x-ray all came out fine. The doctor then prescribed me 5 50mg tabs of prednisone to take once a day for five days.

Today I took my third one, and I think I’m going to stop. My head hurts, I feel weird, and I can’t sleep. I just feel very “out of it”. Also I’m having ear pressure that I can’t for the life of me relieve and it is super annoying.

The things is, Ive been seeing a lot of posts about withdrawals from prednisone that are getting me worried. If I just stop taking it now, am I likely to run into any withdrawal symptoms? Also, how long until I just feel normal again? It’s currently 1 AM, and I took the pill around 7:30 this morning. I’m a pretty high anxiety person, and I’m just so tired of being ill and I kind of regret taking this drug

Thanks in advance

Withdrawal problems from corticosteroids generally happen when you have been taking them for a much longer time - several weeks of high doses as you are taking, a couple of months at much lower doses. Five days of high dose is a common way of reducing the inflammation and consequent swelling in chest infections - though I'm not entirely sure you needed 50mg at this stage of the problem although 5x50mg is probably easier to cope with than 10 days of 25mg.

So I should be fine? No lasting damage etc?

You should be fine. No lasting damage - just maybe a few days getting used to not being on it.

Hi Acheuro, hang in there, prednisone  side effects feeling wired and can't sleep, five days is a short course, you only like two more days, but you can stop if that's what you think you need to do ,but side effects will last a couple of days after you stop it did me, 50 mg is a little high, mine was 10 mg 4 for five days then 10 mg three for five days right on down one till I got to only one then off them, hope this is of some help to you.

Hey, how are you, did you faced any withdrawl symtoms...and if yes what were they and how long they existed.
