I was diagnosed with this painful dryness about 2 months ago after having it for over a year, at first I thought it was Cystitis but the urine results came back ok, then I thought it was thrush, till at last the GP after 2 swabs and 4 examinations said it was Atrophic Vaginitis, been on Vagifem for 2 months but it's still as bad some days, what made me think it was Thrush is it depends what I eat like some fruits and tomato sauces like in pasta and baked beans, seem to make it worse I wondered if anyone on here had the same when they ate certain foods.
Think your symptoms link up with hives which is food related an can be researc hed on this site. Culprit foods include tomatoes and wine I think. I am trying to find diagnosis for myself as sick of the toing and froing to the doctors
When I was experiencing the itching & inflammation I went to a (US) clinic (Women to Women) not covered by my insurance as it was in another state (I was desperate). The practioner put me on a yeast free diet as she felt the problem was yeast related despite the negative test results for yeast. I have read many times that sugar can exacerbate the problem. In my case I had just taken the medication prescribed by my GP that solved my problem (which proved to be bacterial despite negative test results), but I lost 8 lbs on that diet! Alcohol contains a lot of sugar and I know a woman who has severe issues with tomatoes. Best to try eliminating certain foods & keep track of the results. It can't hurt.

Hi Margaret, I am not at all sure how to participate in these forums correctly as far as continuing discussions. I have posted several times that problems that I had with extreme itching, rawness and discomfort for 5 years were caused by infection and cured by taking Flagyl. This went undiagnosed by my gynecologist (who was prescribing creams and the wrong antibiotics) and a specialist I was sent to. I wonder if anyone else out there is being told that atrophy is the problem when it is in fact an infection. I happen to have atrophy, but since curing the infection years ago I have none of the previous symptoms, only disconfort when having an exam. If there is only 1 person out there that Flagyl can help I'll be happy. Good luck to you!
