Someone please help me make the right choice!

Hi everyone im writing again now because i feel like i cant calm my panic attacks no matter what i do or think. Its like i think positive but they still pop up strong and scares me. So my wuestion was if anybody on here thinks maybe xanax would help them? Because i was prescribed those at the hospital just havent tried them because i heard you can become addicted and depend on them. But at this point im tired of having pnic attacks so im willing to take them can they help? Please someone let me know your experience if you had teouble controling them and keep having them back to back 24/7

Xanax is very helpful when it comes to anxiety and panic attacks. I have been taking it for just a bit over a month. I use to just take them when needed maybe once or twice a week. But now that i started a new job I’ve been needing them every day. The whole dose makes me sleepy so I cut them in half. I was prescribed .25 mg which is a very low dose.

Take them as prescribed and you will be fine. Honestly, it’s the one thing that’s helping my anxiety at the moment.

Best of luck.

Thank you does the xanax help out with completely all the panic attacks when you take it from the scared feeling to the breathing? To the shaking ?

Yes it does I cut the .25 in half. It Will take the edge off of you.Which is very low dose. Don’t get hung up that you will get addicted. It’s a great drug and it was made for us to help us, I used to not take it and by not taking it I caused a lot of extra anxiety within my body. It’s not worth the anxiety or stress worrying.

Does the xanax help with futre panic attacks or thinking about a future panic attacks and how long before you feel the effect because i been taking half of the .25mg and didnt feel any effect so i bearly took my whole one now but i still feel a lil worry does that mean i need more or just takes time to kick it like days wise?

It’s helpful as long as you don’t take it too frequently. I personally found it to be quite beneficial, but my doctor was overzealous with advising me that it was okay to take it daily, and it ultimately became counterproductive (it’s also quite difficult to come off of). So yeah, it definitely is effective when used moderately, just don’t become overly reliant on it.

Thank you for the advice but ima try taking it everyday see how it helps at first. If i feel like i can manage without then i prob will try to cut it off.

Definitely. I didn’t want to sound dramatic, but it is literally hell getting off of it, and taking it every day can possibly lead to dependency in a relatively short span of time. Tolerance develops very quickly for many people. It’s also a medication where the withdrawal is dangerous, so cold turkey isn’t an option. I’m not trying to be negative though, I just want you to be aware of the risks and benefits (but I’m sure your prescribing doc and/or pharmacist will fill you in. I just happened to have a doctor who didn’t, and I stupidly didn’t do my research until I was in too deep). Used wisely it’s a fantastic tool and can help immensely. Best of luck

Thank you i really appreciate the information yea i been doing my research but i have been seeing mixed emotions on xanax different webs that people use them for years and are happy but others are also get hard to get off them but i appreciate it very very much 😃

Steven,

I’ve been perscribed.25 Xanax for 20 years. When I was first having my panic attacks I would cut the pill in quarters I would take 2 or 3 times a day. Sometimes I would just cut in half or take the whole. See how you go with it.i agree with Steven, tolerance does build quickly with some people.   I would try to skip 1 or 2 days a week. Keep in mind you have to chill and do breathing exercises with it. It did help me and I stopped it for weeks and months when I was fine. I would take it only if I was traveling or speaking in front of a big audience. You’ll be fine. I had to get over the scary thought I was going to be hooked on it. My dr said if you think like that it won’t help you. I was stressing myself over being hooked on it and that was not good now that I look back. And my dr was so right.  How long have you been on it? Weeks? Months?

Please keep me posted of how you are!

Hi Steven,

How long where you taking it and what dose where you on. Do you still take it or

What have you done to replace it.

My doctor prescribed me .25 a day, which stopped being effective after a few months. It was then upped to .5mg a day, then eventually 1mg. This took place over a year period. I subsequently developed withdrawal between doses (known as tolerance withdrawal), and it exacerbated my anxiety. I fought very hard and tapered down slowly over six months. In retrospect, the 1mg dose the doctor prescribed me was likely excessive (this same doctor was prepared to keep upping my doses, but I opted to change doctors), and it shouldn’t have been used as the sole treatment for my anxiety either. I still take it as needed, but only if I’m having a panic attack, which isn’t often. The doctors I’ve spoken with all agree that taking it every day was not an ideal treatment plan for me, especially at the relatively high dose of 1mg. Everyone is different, but during my process of tapering off, I did become part of a support group and met numerous people whose stories were way more extreme than mine (some experienced crippling withdrawal off .25mg, others were taking 8+mg a day, though I don’t claim these situations aren’t the norm). I don’t want to be alarmist though, it truly is an effective tool, which is why I still use it occasionally, it just needs to be used with caution. I addressed the roots of my anxiety in therapy and found that to personally be more effective than any medication. Everyone is different and most people probably will probably be just fine if they use it as recommended by professionals, my father actually has taken a small dose daily for years and seems to be doing great with it.

Oops, it should have said *I don’t claim these situations are the norm.*
