I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia following a recent consultant consultation my life has been very difficult in the last two years my husband took his life Sept 2013. The consultant felt this created a post traumatic event and sensitised me to pain.
Now here is the interesting element as a nurse I felt a few months ago that my joint pain and stiffness could have been attributed to the menopause I requested HRT from my GP he was not too sure it would help but thought it was worth a try for other reasons. I asked for transdermal patches I ve now used these for three months and have considerable improvement still stiffness and some pain but no debilitating flares or continuous pain and stiffness I am delighted and wanted to share. Now I know this may not help everyone but oestrogen plays a huge part and its worth considering .....
pic this helps one person then it was worth this post 😊
Thank you for sharing, fibro seems to hit a lot of people after pregnancy so I've always thought hormones may be the culprit for some people. My mum has always thought she was low estrogen as she was in pain since having me (sorry mum) but she was younger than the normal menopause age so they didn't give her hormones. When she got hrt years later she was very buzzy with energy she's never had but they gave her lady cramps so she stopped. Now she's past the menopause I think and she's not in as much pain but still stiff and tired.
this is very interesting as I have held a firm belief that my symptoms have worsened since the onset of the menopause. Unfortunately I am unable to take any HRT medications due to other health conditions, even though I think in theory this would be really beneficial.
I would be really interested to hear from anyone else who has, or will get benefit from this. Maybe a future treatment in the making, even if there are some women who can't take it and almost certainly men.
By the way, I'm really sorry about the passing of your husband. it doesn't surprise me that you went on to develop PTSD and subsequently fibro. I really hope that life is becoming a little easier for you and I'm really glad you managed to find something to help with the symptoms of fibro, albeit through tough times.
Very interesting and will be very helpful for many people who have had this sane experience...my Fibro was diagnosed during early menopause-20 years ago. but I'd had it ten years earlier apparently after a tragic trauma ...it all seems to play it's part doesn't it..mm..thanks heaps Christine.., be blessed and have a lovely day...:-) xxxx
there are mechanisms in place for research ongoing our GP s and professionals are so busy often things are missed its really worth exploring all possibilities I have dietary issues already gluten and egg free !
Thank you for sharing christine63492, its always good to hear when some one finds something that is working for them, thats excelent news. I have gone through the menopause I wasnt able to take hrt unfortunatly. Take care enjoy your day
I think my fibro really came on after the death of a loved one, so I tend to agree with the consultant, but I'm really glad that you have found that the HRT worked! 😊
I broke a rib in the winter quite easily and when I asked my Dr about having a bone density test, he just said I was too young to be pre-menopausal, and that was the end of that
Thank you for those kind words , you should continue to request tests re pre menopausal issues if other symptoms match my grandmother entered the menopause at 32 it happens it may not be your issue but it's not difficult to take bloods is it,
