Whilst I have no trouble at all lying on my back, I have been kept awake all night with sore heels. I have ordered a pair of heel protectors but these won't arrive until Friday. I have placed cushions beneath my ankles but this hurts my op leg .
Congratulations at the start of a roller coaster journey. The first few days I found were the worst. I also had the heel problem and pillows didn't work.
What did work for me was a soft beanie neck cushion. One of those travel ones. Because it is filled with soft beans and I can manipulate it to a position that allieviates the pain.
Keep us posted on how you are doing as there are lots of helpful hippies on here to offer encouragement help and advice or just a bit of empathy. I had a meltdown last night. I'm 11days post op. The nights without sleep are really getting to me. Still I'm told that as the weeks go on this will improve. Wishing you a good recovery. Xx
I got some heel protectors which look like little wet suits for heels ie neoprene.Very successful.Previous to that we used dressings meant for pressure sores-alevyn I think. Also clear view as used for wounds. You would need to ask your doctor
I can relate.......my heels have bothered me somewhat from time to time, but that part isn't a 'constant' with me. What has been bothering me more are my knees and ankles when I walk. At first I thought: "Oh NO!! Don't tell me they are arthritic too and I just didn't know it until everything fell back into more normal alignment!" But what makes more sense is that I haven't been walking correctly for years, literally! No doubt at all that it will take time for muscles and all to 'fall back into place' so to speak. I know I have arthritis in other joints, but none of them are nearly as deteriorated as my RH was. Doc also told me, according to the X Rays that my lower back was arthritic, which I could have told HIM that even prior to the X Rays. The problem that I can see for someone with arthritis, is that common sense tells you they can't replace the entire skeleton, (I wish they could and I'm already starting to worry about that part, but that's my 'worry wort' personality kicking in. One day at a time for all of us, and for me, trust that God will see me through whatever.
I had problems of the weight of the duvet on my toes - so exactly the opposite of your problem. I used a cushion each side of my feet to relieve the pressure.
