Spasm

Hi, does anyone experience body spasms kind of like your whole body wants to stretch and you can't stop it this only happens to me during the night .

Yes in the early days at home. Tried to go with it as far as possible. Stopped after a few weeks

Yes, i found it annoying but it went after a few weeks or so

I'm almost 6 weeks now it feels odd at the time bit painful then it feels good if u know what I mean 😉

Same with me but it happens less and less as time goes on .

Yep, mine seems to be from the waist to the knees, it makes it very difficult and painful to move.  I did post the question and a few people have experienced the same.  One said that pain meds might be a cause.  Sorry that I can't be of much help, but I found it comforting to know that other people had the same problem.

Hi susan

yes almost every night since my first op last April. It feels like the body is saying streacher out now no need to walk hunched over and in pain any more. I get spasms in my legs where they jump off the mattress of there own accord but it is only the nerves and muscles knitting back together and healing. Nothing to worry about. Although when it starts happening and you don't know why it does freak you out a little.

YES!!! Same. It was oddly satisfying and painful. Like strecthing a cramped muscle.

Michael

Thank you everyone x

Hi Susan

Am 4 weeks post op and one of the reasons I have problems

sleeping in bed at night is after laying down for between 1 and 2 hours I tend to get very hot and get a tingling feeling in my

operated leg. This makes very restless and I have to get up and

walk about. It's very frustrating but as my body heals things

should get better! I hope!

All the best!

Familiar feelings, I do the foot paddling bum clenching exercises to get relief, I'm nearly 6 weeks on and must say the positives out way the negatives take care

Yes ues I do Susan...I stretch so much I wonder if I am doing damage but it helps....

Alice

Me too I sort of try to stop it but can't 😀so weird

That's strange, it sounds as if you all have this post op, I am pre-op and have had this for several months.  I had hoped that it would go after the operation, but maybe it won't.

David,

I used to get very hot too, and like you very fidgetty in bed - it was so bad I used to go into the spare room where I could have just a sheet and no duvet, and shut the radiator off.  I knew if I didn't, I'd be annoying my wife all night long.  I used my iPod to relax me when I was bad, lots of relaxing classical music.

Sleeping on your back is awful - but it seems there is no getting away from it.  I am now in my second period of being on my back - I had 6 weeks following my 29 October surgery, and I am at 5 weeks after a revision operation on 7 January.  I am managing to 'roll' a little way now.

It WILL get better - but like everything about THR, not as fast as you think it should be.

Hi Rocketman

I know what you mean about annoying the wife. Am now at the 4 week point and have been using the recliner a lot. However, I actually dropped off to sleep in bed for a couple of hours last night. Unfortunately I started snoring apparently which kept the wife awake.

I had the opposite last night - she was snoring, and I had a restless leg / body, so had to resort to the iPod once again.  I can only suppose it it because we went to London yesterday for a meal with a load of friends.

I really want to get off my back, and at 5 weeks I can at last feel it is getting easier to roll onto the operated side.

I rolled over for the first time last night but only lasted bout 20 mins I think I must be getting used to sleeping on my back

The iPod or tablet are other essential pieces of kit necessary for this experience. Don't know what I would without today's technology? Don't fancy doing jig saws like back in the day.

I use all three !

Ipod for night, laptop/tablet and jigsaws in the day.

Jigsaws are very good for taking your mind off any pain
