Spasms

After having my GB out two weeks ago by keyhole, I came home the next day and was fine for the first week. Then ended up bck in hosp with constipation. Was sent home Monday and ended up bck in last night over nite with severe spasms on my right side in the area where the gall bladder was. Bn told I've got to give my body time to adjust to no GB. But I'm not convinced bn given buscupan and paracetamol and laxido but I'm at the end of my tether. Has anybody else experienced this and any tips would be gratefully received thankyou

Hi Lynn

I had similar problems (had mine out in November) had horrendous constipation but discovered that was due to Codeine they gave me at hospital and told me to keep on taking :-(  don't touch it now.   As far as the pain is concerned I did get the odd pain in strange places for a while but nothing too severe. It seems to have settled down now though - I hope this helps and yours settles down in time too.

Hi, Lynn.  Were you on opiod pain killers by any chance?  That can really slow down your intestines.  If you need help with cramping, you can take enteric coated peppermint oil.  The enteric coating doesn't dissolve in your stomach, but dissolves in your small intestine to lessen spasms. What worked for me was drinking lots of water, or tea, eating applesauce once or twice a day.  I didn't add any cruciferous vegetables for a while and walking when I felt up to it.  Good luck!

I had my gallbladder removed at end of April last year.

Keyhole like you.

It took about a week before I opened my bowels.

I am certainly better than I was but still have pain in stomach, rightside and back passage sometimes. I have recently been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia and it is also likely that I have ibs. But these things are liveable with.

I am 65 and to be honest, I think it is just part of getting older.

Take care and keep in touch
