anyone here have sphincter of oddi dysfunction and can explain how your pain feels , is it severe attacks of pain but your fine the rest of the time?
my pain isnt in my abdomen but in my chest and ribs . i thought i had costochondritis until i took some codine and my pain flared up! so am now thinking it could be SOD.
i had two attacks when i had a gb so they took it out thinking it would stop but it happened again, but they say it was costochondritis all along, but why would that flare up with codine. i am also in the stages of getting diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. i feel constantly unwell and wondered if that can be connected to SOD or its a seperate issue. thanks
hi I had my GB out exactly a year ago. I’d read pre OP that codeine for some people once their GB has been removed does make their sphincter of oddi go into spasm and was worried it would happen to me. since the OP I’ve needed codeine for severe arthritis and a hip replacement the first couple of times I took it after my GB op I think I did get the spasms but then it settled down. from what I remember ( it was last yr and a lots happened) I got pains to area where my GB had been ie R upper abdo just below my ribs which lasted a few hrs then stopped. didn’t feel sick or anything.
anyway as I say I’m sure it can be quite common with codeine. as for whether you really needed your GB out or not the surgeon should have said to you what state your GBwas in when they took it out. they are supposed to send all tissue away to the labs so there ought to be a lab report stating what your GB was like.
anyway hope you settle .best wishes
