I have always had problems with my spine even as a child, things have still not sorted themselves out. i get back pain and spasms every now and then while walking or sitting, cannot carry anything heavy at all. At the moment i cant get confortable in bed even with countless pillows, i dont have a soft mattress either as this makes it far worse. Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
Dear dawn
i know what you mean about not getting comfy in bed its not nice at all. Even with lots of pillows i am the same. I try to do 2 big walks as my back will allow to try and tire myself out. It's only 11 weeks since my spinal fusion. I hope someone comes along with any tips about sleep
Hi Dawn, I'm afraid I'm more a sympathiser as also in a similar position. I've tried using a pillow between my legs, sleeping on my front and using a hot water bottle. I have an orthopaedic mattress but it makes no difference. I've tried to wedge myself so I can't move in the night and then taken my medication. Hope you can find a solution. Have you been to see your GP? I've heard Amitriptyline can help.
Dear angie,
i can relate to you trying to wedge yourself its so difficult isn't it.
Hi Angie.
No i have not been to see my gp yet, always feel like im being fobbed off by them. Will have to try again and see what they say.
Hi Laura, yes very, I'm so glad I'm single though as I have to pile up loads on one side!!
Oh no Dawn, it's difficult with GP's and their limited time. I've been left with telephone appointments over the last 2 weeks. I'm lucky that my back problems started after a car accident, so I was scanned after and the disc prolapse was noticed then. My GP has been really good and they get updates from my Orthopaedic Consultant.
Hope you have more success getting an appointment and being listened to.
Hi Dawn
It took more than 20 years to diagnose me with Degenerative Disc Disease.
I would absolutely demand an MRI scan and find out what is going on.
I underwent TLIF spinal surgery in 2010.
Don't be fobbed off, you shouldn't be suffering like this.
Good luck.
