my surgeon & anaesthetist advises spinal & sedation for Friday. My daughter made a cd of my favourite music to use with headphones.2hours long. DO YOU HEAR OR REMEMBER ANYTHING? With or without your head phones & muwic
All i remember is the doc saying he would give me something to relax me as i was a nervous wreck. That's the last thing i remember i didn't hear see feel anything
Oh I so hope it'll be the same for me. I can't sleep, eat & feel sick with anxiety. Can't wait but dreading it too. Things can only be better though. Hope you're doing well. Sorry for being such a wuss but I'm so anxious
I had a good chat to the anaesthetists assistant about cycling and dancing to northern soul.
She apologised for not having any soul on the headphones but I listened to whatever it was anyway.
Then I was asked if I wanted to sleep so I said yes then next thing I knew I was being wheeled to the recovery room with my foot lying in a position it hadn't done for years.
Your not being a wuss. I was terrified. I understand that anxiety. Its horrible. I was so close to leaving the hospital and was willing to put up with hip pain for the rest of my life. Im now 11 days post op. The oain is NOTHING ...for me its more like an extreme stiffness a deep stiffness. ..uncomfortable. ..but not pain. However i think i strained somehing in t h e groin. I hurt there when i try to sit from a laying position
Just on an amusing note. My sister had it done. .but she had major complications as she has a lung disease. Anyway. ..she woke to find herself talking to michael jackson who was sitting in her wardrobe singing....you are not alone llol very good drugs these days lol
I had an epidural and sedation. The last thing I remember was saying good bye to my family and the next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room.
I had spinal and sedation and didn't hear, see or smell anything at all. It's the way to go for me next time too. xx
You will not feel or hear a thing, I had spinal and light sedation. The only thing I remember is the anaesthetist saying he was giving me the champagne now (sedation). Next thing I was in recovery room and only for about 20 mins then back to my bed.
Please don't worry, it'll be over before you know it. Best of luck, Mark
I am having mine on the 13th November, having nightmares I want a general dont want to be awake, what if my surgeon etc., doesnt do that what do i do.
I can remember putting my headphones in and anaesthetist saying he was starting sedation, and then woke up in recovery at end.
I had a strong sedation (offered mild, medium or strong) sedation with my epidural and the next thing I knew was wakening up in the recovery ward. I was totally out of it, and required no headphones or music which I beleive would be required for mild or medium sedation.
Are headphones accepted as normal in theatre? I was wondering about this, with the risk of infection being such a priority? I was told not even to bring my phone in with me as there is nowhere safe to put it, but I would like to be able to listen to music, if I'm awake that is.
I'm assuming that the hospital supply earphones. They had a few CDs but wouldn't be of my type of music. They said we could bring our own if we liked instead. Id better ask if I bring my own earphones or if they provide them.
my son is going to put some music on his IPod for me if I decide to go down the spinal route. can someone tell me how long is the operation approximately?
steph
I wanted the general but the surgeon recommend the epidural and with hindsight he was right.
You won't see anything as your lower body is screened and you won't hear or feel anything either.
About an hour and a half for the operation. I had spinal and sedative, didn't need any music or head-phones as I was asleep and have no recollection of anything until I was in recovery, to be told I was going to my bed on the ward. xx
Hi, I was going down the GA route until I got advice from here, my daughter (trainee nurse) and anaesthetist. I went for spinal and light sedation, didn't feel, hear, see a thing until I woke in recovery. The Op last approx 90mins but mine was finished in approx 60mins I was told. The spinal in my opinion is by far the best option, you will fly through it and recover quicker straight after. I was back in my bed 1/2 hour after the op! Best of luck, Mark
silly question from a frightened hippie to be, but where and when do they do the spinal, are you out first. shaking just writing this.Sue
I was out before they did the spinal.
Nothing to it.
