Just hoping some of you experienced hippies can reasure me. Had right anterior THR 7 days ago and had felt I had made slow but steady progress - exercises getting a bit easier and pain reducing. Then at 4pm today it became really hard to put any weight on my leg and pain increased alot when weight bearing. Have iced and took extra pain relief etc. Just a bit spooked out that I have stuffed it up some how. I have no restrictions on what I can do as its anterior. Any clues at all. Hoping to wake up feeling a bit better tomorrow. Thanks
HI DEBBIE, I'M 3WKS POSTOP WITH ANTERIOR THR AND DOING WELL. YOU MAY HAVE TURNED YOUR LEG EITHER TOO FAR INWARD OR OUTWARD; THAT IS A RESTRICTION WITH THE ANTERIOR THR AND ANOTHER IS EXTENDING YOUR LEG TO FAR BACKWARDS THIS EARLY IN THE POSTOPERATIVE STAGE. HOPEFULLY YOU HAVEN'T POPPED IT OUT OF THE SOCKET. YOU CAN GET IT CHECKED OUT WITH YOUR SURGEON'S OFFICE....IF IT HURTS REALLY BAD, I WOULD DEFINITELY MAKE THAT APPOINTMENT. HOPE YOU RESOLVE THE SITUATION!
dear deb,
druedean is probably right but have it checked anyway ...
7 days is early in recovery from this surgery - even though with anterior approach muscles and tendons, etc. are not cut, they were stil manipulated, joint still had to be dislocated, and hardware to be placed ...
come back and let us know, okay ? hopefully you woke up after a good night sleep and pain is less -
big warm hug

I think it would be obvious if the ball had been popped out of it's socket going on what happened to me six days post op.
I slowly reached to my right and picked up a small bottle of water and rotated in my office chair and as I put the bottle down on the table I felt a heavy clonk in my hip and walking was uncomfortable.
I was told that what I felt was likely to have been the ball coming out of the socket. I'm taking even more care!
Cheers Richard
Yikes - is it ok now? What did they do? I don't think I have done that as I can still move the joint ok. Its just when I put weight on it. I have a gp appointment later although I am not too sure if its quite general enough for them! Possibly I did too much yesterday and have annoyed the joint a bit and it is exacting its revenge. I am a bit rubbish at being patient. Hope you are ok now
Thanks Deb
Thanks Renee and for the virtual hug
Off to GP in a bit. Suspect that I was an over enthusiastic exerciser yesterday which has made it cross. Fingers crossed
Best wishes Deb
Thanks and advice taken - off to GP this am x
Hi Deb...did you have the anterior THR with a spinal block? I am due to have this next month...have been delaying and delaying...terrified of surgery as I have allergies to so many drugs. How did you feel immediately post surgery...how was the pain? And how long did you stay in hospital? Wishing you well with your recovery...just wish there was a different way!! One reason I have delayed is that I have days where I do so well I feel I don't need surgery and others, well bit of a struggle
hi maureen,
I just saw your post and noticed that this your 1st time here - so welcome to this hippies forum ..
Deb had an anterior approach - not sure about the anestesia -
why don't you start your own discussion (see Green button) and share your story with us -
we come in all ages and stages on this journey to new hips .. been there, felt that etc. No where else will you be understood and supported ---
you are not alone, darling -
hope to see you soon
big warm hug

Dear Deb
There was just this really solid 'clonk' and the X rays showed it was still located but discussing it with my surgeon on Monday he thought that it had just moved out of the ball and gone straight back in!! It is fine now and I suffered no long term effects except tenderness for a few days. Went for a 3/4 mile walk today using both crutches and all well.
Cheers
Richard
Dear Maureen
When I had my hip replacd twenty years ago I was so fearful but could not see any alternative and now I'm recovering from having it replaced and seem to be making good progresss though I'm now 75 not 55 as I was previously.
If you need it you need it and best to get it done sooner rather than later as you are more likely to have a trouble free outcome.
Cheers
Richard
Just a quick update. Saw GP who sent me to A and E. They were very amazing efficient and fast!! Good old NHS. Had xrays and reviews and all ok. Bit bine marrow swelling bit not suprising. So back to sofa and cup of tea. Phew. Big relief.
wow - impressed with your walk. When was the surgery? I can't wait to get my leg back working.
Hi Maureen. I am v new to this forum and to the whole thing really but now have some experience!
I had a general anaesthetic and a spinal block. Both were fine.
I went in at 7am . Had surgery at 8.30 am. Was walking on it by 4pm. Not far tho!
Pain was really quite tolerable. Paracetamol and ibuprofen covered it ok and still do generally. Had a bit of a blip over past 24hrs but thats life I guess.
I stayed in fro 2 1/2 days. But did have help at home and I am pretty youngish and fairly strong/ fit. Its super frustrating having to need help and asking alk the time. And my kids seam to wander off with my crutches!!!!
Its a means to an end which will hopefully be good.
V best wishes for your op
Deb
Dear Deb
The surgery was May 11th but I went backwards with my recovery due to being thrown onto the floor or the passenger ambulance so I was only allowed to weight bear three days ago. I fitted in a second walk this afternoon of about half an hour and now have my feet up!
Cheers Richard
In years past 20 yeats I actually I did dislocate my posterior THR. No one has to wonder if this has happened when it occurs. I didnt anyway...The SEVERE muscle spasms are the most horrific pain I've EVER experienced. I did this not once but 3 times! That was the right hip. Fast forward 20+ years. Had anterior approach left hip & I experienced subluxation 6 times in 12 weeks. This resulted in having a revision & a retention cup/liner put in...A subluxation is a partial dislocation. I then had revision #3 with exchange of my short stem to a longer stem. It's all good now. I'm walking with my Nordic Walkers & bouncing on my Bellicon (gently of course)
Thankful for this hip replacement forum & the encouragement & support I've found here♡
Have a blessed day everyone ♡
In thoughts & prayers all is well♡
We'll done Vickie. I am taking great care of my hip now!
All the best
Richard
Glad to hear you're ok. TC Vickie
Glad to hear that Richard :-)
