Spoons Theory - Christine Miseriando

In case some of you are wondering:

Give yourselves as many 'spoons' (psychologically!) as you think you will need in a day.  When you have used 4 or 5 take a break (I take 15 - 20 minutes).  It works for me!  I gave myself 20 'spoons' at first and am gradually decreasing them. It's a sort of fun thing!

Hope you'll try it.

Like your positive attitude, Constance.

Sorry, but don't know anything about the "spoons." Can you educate me?

Google "the spoon theory by Christina Miseriado" to get a link to the article - Constance did start another thread about it so maybe she meant this post to be in there. I can't give you the direct link - it will disappear for a while to be checked!

The spoons theory isn't a fun thing at all (I'll explain that later) -it is a serious way of explaining life with a disability or horrid illness (like ours!).  It was actually thought of by a woman suffering from Lupus (also an immune system illness).  It is a brilliant way of explaining what we are going through with our various complaints, and informing our families and friends.

Now for the 'fun' thing!  My husband was not amused when I started using the 'spoons' (he was always on at me for doing too much, and then I started talking spoons!).  I use 4 or 5 of my 'psychological' spoons, then I rest for 15 to 20 minutes.  Now hubby says "shall we......"  or "how about....." and I say "that will cost me 3 spoons"  or  "I've used up all my spoons".  I think he'll throttle me one day!!!!!!

Sorry, but I still don't understand the "spoons" thing--

If you have read the article then the author explains the "spoons thing". Look it up on the web as I'm sure copyright wouldn't allow me to simply copy and paste it.
